My experience was very similar to the last review. Soon after the labor guarantee expired, so did the recorder. Same problem. Just stopped reading disks. A little checking revealed this is a common problem with this unit. Since the last reviewer got the guarantee extended, I thought I'd try. A few weeks ago I wrote a review on two of these items I bought, both faulty. Today, 92 days after the original purchase ( yes....ninety two) I have just got one of them back and this time it actually works! I bought this recorder a month ago and thought it could not be easier to set up! Recording programs is a breeze...You need to choose between DVD-VR which allows you to edit you recording directly on the Samsung or DVD-V(easiest for me)where you just finalize(chapters will then be created) and it will play on any recorder...It is a Zone 1 recorder and will NOT play DVDs from Europe for example unless you get it zonefree. "After doing some research, I thought that this unit was a good deal for the price. I had major recording issues out of the box and ruined 10 DVD's. Six weeks later and a new recorder replaced in the unit, hopefully I can begin using it now. Next time I will defintely go the Sony and pay a little more for better quality and reliability."
