Summary: I bought this unit because it was being sold refurbished for only $50. For what it's worth, it does record fairly well in DVD-VR mode. The menus it generates on the DVD are generic 3x3 box displays and look fairly dated. The only reason I needed a unit like this was to record shows for a portable DVD player. When I used it in DVD-Video mode (standard DVD), it would play back with good sync on the Samsung unit but would be about 1/4 of a second off on playback.
Summary: I have used this recorder for a couple of months. Easy to setup. I have connected the component output to my HDTV, works fine. But audio (optical/digital) output is inferior as compared to my two other DVD players, Phillips and CyberHome. I have to turn my receiver a few notch up and adjust a couple of settings to get similar experience. It records only on DVD-R format. My sony dvd camcorder doesn't have IE394 output, else it would have been handy with the front jack.
Great features, great price, but significant sync problems

Summary: I want to like this model. I really do. The unit seems quite durable, the picture quality is terrific, especially for a low-priced unit, and the features and remote control are nice and intuitive. However, I have had problems with audio-visual sync drift on the majority of recordings I have made -- a big enough lag to make it very annoying, at times.
Summary: Strengths: Works like a VCR. Easy to use. Quality of picture. One touch recording. Price. Weaknesses: Takes a long time for disc to load. Only displays the time when unit is off. No "Time Slip" feature. Several problems. Summary: Overall I like this unit. It is very easy to use. The manual is comprehensive, but it is sometimes difficult to quickly find what you are looking for.
Summary: I bought two from Best Buy on Black Friday, and both gave me a "System Error" when recording over 30 minutes. One dvd I recordered and finalized worked in the unit, but played very SLOWLY (not normal speed) on a regular later model dvd player. I loave all the inputs (dv, and Svideo), and have not found anything in this price range with the features. I am very frustrated! My doel was the DVD-R120 AXAA (I did not try the XAA).
Summary: Overall, the DVD-R120 is pretty good, but there is one problem that is frustrating me to no end. I'm sure this is not a problem in all units because if it was no one would buy the thing. If I record onto a disc and then the unit is either turned off or turns itself off (which it will do when in Timer mode), prior to Finalizing, then the disc will be unreadable by the unit when you power it back on.
Summary: I have only had this product for 2 weeks and I am somewhat new to DVD player/recorders. So, take my comments with a grain of salt. The remote control will work with various TV brands when you program your TV brand code into it. But, it seems to "forget" the code after only a few minutes. You end up needing to re-program your TV brand code into the remote over and over agiain for the remote to work on your TV. Other than that everything seems to work ok.
