Summary: So far, so good. Not the faint of heart as the User's Manual is lacking. But, if you're not afraid of pressing buttons to figure it out it's a pretty good recording device. Also, not lacking in the input/output choices. A bit slow reading from the SD slot and the USB port but quite nice to have those media choices. Doesn't look like Polaroid is supporting the machine as I looked for firmware updates etc. on their web site and came up empty.
Summary: I like the machine for the price. Big drive holds a lot of video. 480i output looks good on my 50" projection hi def, though not as good as my 1080 tuner. People who want intuitive operation should think twice. I've done a lot of software, but this guy makes me think about what I'm trying to do. Also, when you go to edit a programmed event, the fields you had programmed may, or may not, be changed by the machine.
Summary: I'm THRILLED that someone is still making a DVR with a Digital Tuner. The unit performs okay - mostly, but we find that it freezes occasionally requiring pulling the plug to reboot. Our unit doesn't seem to play any digital media (USB/Flash) at all. We'll warranty exchange this unit and hopefully get all of the basic features to work in the replacement.
Summary: I know Polaroid has a good reputation on cameras. This was my first Polaroid dvd/harddisk recorder and it never started. Maybe it is because it is a refurbished model and polaroid thought they had fixed the problems. It just never turned on. I've purchased refurbished stuff before and haven't had major problems before. Probably just one very defective recorder. [...
Summary: Read my full review at Buzzillions. Since the hard drive won't work and the disc options are limited--that means it's very picky about which brands of blank media it will accept--I suggest J&R offer an exclusive pack of various brands of blank media. Maybe 2 or 3 of each manufacturer's DVD+/-RW/R, so that I can find out what works and what doesn't without buying spindle after spindle of coasters. Buyer beware of refurbished and Polaroid products.
Pros: Attractive Design, Nice mirror front
Cons: Awful owners manual, Confusing Set Up, Discs Load Slowly, Non working hard drive, Poor Chapter Publishing, Wrong remote included
Summary: If a simple VCR is at all challenging, don't even try this device! Even if you are a wiz with a VCR, think twice. This device is very frustrating. The remote control does not always work. When it does work, it responds so slow you think that it didn't work. The owner's manual is close to useless. Not for the casual user. I have worked with similar equipment for years. I have never had one frustrate me like this thing.
Pros: Attractive Design
Cons: Confusing Set Up, Discs Load Slowly, Poor owners manual, Poor Remote Control Recep, Slow Remote Control, Slow Signal Reception
Summary: Navigating the programming mode is covered in the manual but the tiny low-rez graphics are impossible to read. Downloading the manual in PDF is no help beacause it's the same low-rez. Pre-naming programs requires scrolling through upper and lower cases plus punctuation for each character in the title. Once you have mastered the learning curve, the unit performs well.
Pros: Attractive Design, Fast Setup, Handles muliple recording
Cons: Manual is unreadable, Programing is challenging, Remote has tiny buttons
