HDMI Port Failed After 2 Weeks

Rex V., Newegg
13 March 2010
  • Pros: It's a slick little DVD player that loads discs pretty quickly and has a lot of features like the USB port (which I haven't tried).
  • Cons: The HDMI port failed 1 week (to the day) after hooking up the HDMI cables and only after 2 weeks of ownership. I was leery of purchasing this player because so many other newegg users had trouble with the port, but decided rather to roll the dice, hoping Phillips still made quality products. Evid...

Rocky H., Newegg
22 February 2010
  • Summary: None, I'm very satisfied! I love it!
  • Pros: It can play everything ya throw at it in alot of formats, I would say 90% of all formats work. and the remote control is awesome to control your tv, I didn't even have to program it in, just point and click! Slick black design and colors really nice!
  • Cons: Won't play formats like for instance MKV files I never tried OSG yet, but I kinda doubt it will. But maybe in time there will be such a player that is cheap that will, but besides that? I can see no flaws at all, I love my player and very, very happy with it! I think it is alot better than the Mag...

DVP5990 Philips

John B., Newegg
7 February 2010
  • Summary: I had been looking for a DVD player with HDMI to plug into my new LG 42LH40 TV I also bought from Newegg. Both were bought in October 2009. The TV is great!
  • Pros: Price was low. Ratings were good. The player worked well for three months.
  • Cons: The HDMI output quit a week ago. I replaced the HDMI cable with a new spare Nippon Labs Premium High Performance HDMI cable I also bought from Newegg. No luck! I tried other HDMI inputs on the LG HDTV. No Luck! Finally I abandoned the HDMI and used a set of component RGB cables. That Worked! It i...

Best Bang for Your Buck

Anonymous, Newegg
30 January 2010
  • Summary: I'm not sure if there is ANY difference between the F7 and 37 models. Get that modded firmware!
  • Pros: Plays any Mpeg-2 (Xvid!} I can throw at it. USB port works flawlessly. Upconversion is sweet. Amazing what you can get for the cost of a couple large pizzas nowadays.
  • Cons: I was sent an F7. Is this a con? I think the F7 and 37 are the same except for the stock firmware? OSD is somewhat lacking and I had some problems with some .srt subs. However, this is easily remedied as there are modded firmware versions out there that take care of any problems. ;) Remote is ver...

  • Summary: I have made many purchases from Newegg over the years, both for personal use and for business. This latest experience makes me very wary of anything shipped by a third party on Neweggs behalf, and I'll certainly be paying much more attention to the invoice details (having an item listed as...
  • Pros: In theory (if it worked) the USB input and inexpensive price makes it appear to be a good buy.
  • Cons: Shipped from a third party (not Newegg). Packing label on the items original box (not packaged any further) and was in such a state it looked as if the supplier tossed it around the warehouse like a football. Worked fine over HDMI for about 30 minutes until major pixelation and color anomalies oc...

Good For The Price

Kenneth H., Newegg
14 January 2010
  • Summary: 3.6 is my rating. I love this player. I have thrown most everything at it & it plays like a champ. There are a few things you must know & prepare for if you are looking to play files on this. 1.
  • Pros: Fast Loading, plays all but MKV & WMV. Odd combination AVI container files even play. Excellent at handling DVD's as well. Fast code to make this region free.
  • Cons: Needs a smarter interface The indexing is poor. Must keep the file names & folders short or they run off the screen. There are good hardware updating hacks around, but be wary unless you have experience with these & are willing to part with your player lol.
