The player also features 12-bit/108MHz Digital-to-Analogue-Converter video processing that preserves detail of the picture quality; 192kHz/24 bit audio DAC enhances analogue sound input for representation of the original sound curves; high definition JPEG playback for images, Progressive Scan component video for optimized image quality and DivX Ultra Certified for playback of DivX videos. The DivX media format is an MPEG4-based video compression technology that enables users to save large files like movies, trailers and music videos on media like CD-R/RW, and DVD recordable discs. DivX Ultra combines DivX playback with features like integrated subtitles, multiple audio languages, multiple tracks and menus into one file format. The player also supports DivX, MP3, WMA and JPEG digital camera photos on CD, (S)VCD, DVD, DVD+R/RW, and DVD-R/RW media format. The player also supports USB interface, allowing users to plug a device into the USB port on the Philips DVD system and play digital music and photos directly from the device.

I have hundreds of movies and TV shows I have downloaded from the internet mostly in Divx or Xvid format. This playes them all. I use a $20 8gig USB stick and load up 8-10 movies at a time to watch without having to burn any disks! Also in the process of loading a whole catalogue of hundreds of movies and shows on a 1 terrabyte external drive to plug in the USB slot. It's a poor man media center, if you add a external HD you can have a media center. I play all my wmv and AVI file that I collect and most of the time look better than in my computer. The bad thing is that you can't bookmark the media if you didn't finish you have to start over. HDMI is a must in this player Read more
480p Progressive Scan is much more suitable on this device and quite frankly alot better. The price is right and you won't be disappointed but any DVD player with Progressive Scan will get the job done. Shop for the pice not for HDMI Upconvert. Read more
[...]I got this for my Living Room for routine use. I've only had it a short time but so far it has played everything I've tried - regular store bought movies, MPEG's, AVI's and JPEG pictures. I have my family pictures stored on flash drives and being able to just plug them in the player and begin viewing them is a real treat. This is one of those items that I wonder why I hadn't gotten earlier. We had a fairly good collection of DVD's that we purchased when we lived in central Europe (Slovakia). We were thinking about tossing them when we got back in the USA. Then I saw the Philips Multiregion Player 1080P.
