The player also features 12-bit/108MHz Digital-to-Analogue-Converter video processing that preserves detail of the picture quality; 192kHz/24 bit audio DAC enhances analogue sound input for representation of the original sound curves; high definition JPEG playback for images, Progressive Scan component video for optimized image quality and DivX Ultra Certified for playback of DivX videos. The DivX media format is an MPEG4-based video compression technology that enables users to save large files like movies, trailers and music videos on media like CD-R/RW, and DVD recordable discs. DivX Ultra combines DivX playback with features like integrated subtitles, multiple audio languages, multiple tracks and menus into one file format. The player also supports DivX, MP3, WMA and JPEG digital camera photos on CD, (S)VCD, DVD, DVD+R/RW, and DVD-R/RW media format. The player also supports USB interface, allowing users to plug a device into the USB port on the Philips DVD system and play digital music and photos directly from the device.

I use this player as a secondary player and it serves its purpose. You can easily make this player region free and play a variety of video types (namely divx) without even burning a cd thanks to the USB connectivity. Did I mention that it upscales? This will make your standard definition DVDs look better on your HDTV and they will fill your HDTV screen, as opposed to having the two black bars on the sides. [...]I got this for my Living Room for routine use. I've only had it a short time but so far it has played everything I've tried - regular store bought movies, MPEG's, AVI's and JPEG pictures. I have my family pictures stored on flash drives and being able to just plug them in the player and begin viewing them is a real treat. I am very pleased with this player. I haven't found any format it won't play so far, and the video quality is excellent (I'm using the HDMI output to my HDTV). In addition to the DVDs, it will also play files from any device plugged into the USB port on the front. I even discovered a feature in the setup menu that allows you to offset the audio & video channels to sync up those movies where the audio is off a bit. 480p Progressive Scan is much more suitable on this device and quite frankly alot better. The price is right and you won't be disappointed but any DVD player with Progressive Scan will get the job done. Shop for the pice not for HDMI Upconvert. Read more
First time connection. No problem. Plays any dvd I throw at it. African, German, English, you name it. For the price, best product ever. Took a big chance as my previous philips(not same model) only lasted 1 month before returning it to target. Read more or see product
