    The price of upscaling DVD players is falling faster than the Prime Minister's popularity, which means you can now get near-HD picture quality for a quarter of the price of a high-definition deck. So if you've got a big DVD collection and don't fancy re-mortgaging the house to replace them all on Blu-ray, then a DVD upscaler could be the most cost-effective option. Read more

    I purchased the Philips DVP 5980 player following reviews and the desire to obtain an up-scaler for a 720p projector I was using with a standard DVD player. I also didn't want to spend a `fortune' on a player which would be obsolete when blue ray players became as cheap as DVD players are now. It has only been used with the projector (as I don ' t yet own a HD TV) and the images have been very impressive and definitely provide a better picture than was being displayed... Read more
