Summary: I was down to one VHS machine that wasn't working very well and knew it was time to look for another one if I wanted to be able to watch the dozens of VHS tapes I've made over the years. I was unable to find any standalone VHS machines. I came across this dual DVD/VHS deck on Target's webpage and did some research. The Phillips was one of the top rated.
Summary: The lack of an input for coaxial cable makes this DVD/VCR combo difficult to install if you have more than one other device to connect. For that reason, I gave it only two stars for ease of use. I only bought it last week, so I'll have to wait and see about durability and reliability. Picture and sound quality are good for a low price product, and new VCRs are getting harder to find all the time.
Summary: It is difficult to find any VHS player/recorder. This unit has HQ quality enhancement that gives better recordings. The playback of video is fine, the Stereo HiFi is fine and the tracking is compatible with my old SLP 6 hour recordings. The mechanical parts are basic and lightweight, just like everything else these days.
VHS players are ridiculously expensive on the internet - this one's a steal!

Summary: 8-tracks, cassettes, VCRs... ah, the good old days! This unit was reasonably priced, easy to hook up and does the job so I can view all my old VHS tapes of my babies and old movies like Rambo and Splash. I didn't want to spend the hundreds of dollars to convert my home movies to DVDs so this was a cheaper alternative. Much better price than others on the internet!
Summary: I bought 2 of these combos within the last two weeks. The first worked 12 hours. Took it back and bought another one. It worked for one week. Both had the same problem. The unit lost the picture when playing a tape on the VCR. You get sound but only snow for the picture. I bought these at two different stores in different states so who knows how many of these units are defective. Don't waste your money or your time.
Summary: got nice picture, just plugged in the cables I already had from my old DVD/VCR player and had no glitches. Worked immidately with awesome picture, except the volume seems to be low, had to turn the volume way higher than before to get the same sound level.
Summary: I needed to replace a broken DVD/VCR combo unit, and after doing some looking I decided to keep it simple. Although I wanted a digital tuner and a DVD recorder, I decided this unit would be enough. I was pleased with how easy it was to set up. Quality is nice. VERY light weight (is anything inside the case?). On the negative side....The remote is jam packed with buttons -- most you'll never use, making the ones you will use difficult to find.
