Excerpt: We needed a second DVD player for the bedroom, so we bought this unit on sale. I got a lot more than I bargained for, so to speak. It is sleek, compact, and fits nicely in our enterainment center. It has some great features. You can stop your DVD, or even take it out of the player. When you turn it back on, the DVD will pick back up where it left off!
Excerpt: I bought my Philips DVP3140 DVD player after trying to buy a couple of others and having to return them. This DVD player while not the cheapest, was not the most expensive either. I believe I paid around forty dollars for it and that was a couple years ago. I think I got it at Best Buy. I like this DVD player a lot. It is relatively easy to use and I haven't had any problems with it. It was easy to hook up and comes with its own cables and remote.
Excerpt: Philips has been around for a long time so I thought this was a quality dvd player. Man, was I wrong. From the outside, the player looks great. But who really cares about looks if the quality of the player is terrible. I inserted a homemade dvd so I could play my compilation of pictures. After that, I tried loading a different dvd it wouldn't read. I also tried playing a movie I bought and same result.
Excerpt: We use this phillips dvp3140 dvd player for watching dvd movies at our humble abode. It has many wonderful features such as slow motion, pause, and zoom functions. It also has a menu button to set up controls . It employs state of the art technology for pictures and sounds. It is very reliable and has not have any breakdowns. It is relatively inexpensive and it is very sleek and nice looking. It has subtitles functions. These are easy to use.
Excerpt: First I was a bit skeptical whether it could really play other formats... as I had a lot of divx videos. To my surprise it played almost all. Now there is no need to painfully try to convert the video formats to dvd version. I can watch all of them burning into a single dvd. The player is light weight, although a little bit long. Unfortunately this dvd player is not region-free but you can find codes online to make it region-free for free.
Excerpt: I just needed something basic and simple to hook up so I could watch DVDs. I decided to enter the 21st century and am so glad I did. Wal Mart has tons of DVDs for $10 or less and I have hours of cartoons, Hitchcock and many others to watch. Great player at a great price.
Summary: Well this dvd player is very noisy when a disc starts and then again when the movie starts. This dvd offers medium at best picture quality. It's crisp on my 1080p tv, but the tv upscales wonderfully. Where it lacks is the color rendering of movies. The other annoying thing, is the dvd slot will not open if the power is off. Nore is there and eject button on the remote. The remote is very basic, and pretty clumsy to use. Really the only good thing was the price.
Summary: This Phillips player is pretty much 90% functionality - it plays just about anything you put in it (including AVIs and JPGs) without complaint (I hear it is also region-code unlockable too). An absolute bargain!
Summary: I actually didn't buy this player on Amazon. My mom had it. After buying some Region 2 DVD's (of ER. They happen to have all 15 seasons out on DVD, while they're still only at season 11 here in the states), and being assured that I could set my old player to a "region free" status, I became frustrated and annoyed that yes, I could set the player to that status, but the picture was terrible, and they played in black and white. I tolerated it.
Summary: Make sure it's made within the 2 year time frame Phillips will replace anything defective! The remote I got with this broke after a few uses so I have to order a universal to use with it because its outside the time frame and they will no longer replace the broken one. Other than that it plays eveything wonderfully, a little bit off with PAL format but hardly noticeable. I love that I can put any DVD in it with no troubles.
