Phillips Dvd 711

Consumer Democracy

  • Summary: Never had a problem with this player. It has played every DVD I've thrown at it, including rentals, flawlessly. Picture perfect playback. Still pictures, slow motion, and fast motion(up to 32x) are all smooth. I haven't found a problem yet with this system. It's a low price basic model with a few features only found on higher priced units. The sound output is execellent. I've been using this player for over a year now.
  • Pros: Dual Laser optical pickup handles all DVD's with ease. 5-Disc Resume. Plays CD-R/RW and S-VCD's.
  • Cons: Zoom still pictures only.

Great DVD by Philips

  • Excerpt: As with most of the electronic and other devices I possess, I am always quite pleased with my instincts when it comes to buying the right product and at the right price. My new acquisition the Philips DVD711 DVD Player is no exception. At just £189 this beauty is pure value for money. It provides you with almost the full potential of the DVD experience for a fraction of the cost of other DVD players boasting the same specifications.
  • Pros: Very reasonably priced, Has many features that exist in more expensive models, High quality product
  • Cons: Odd remote, Only in silver

  • Excerpt: As the modern world moves into a new era of cinema that demands clearer pictures and sound so precise you could hear a pin drop on set, DVD is becoming an ever-growing force in home-cinema! But with so many models to choose from, it is often hard to pick a good model for your choice of movies. What is so appealing about this model is that it is so easy to use. Put the DVD in and it will load up instantly.
  • Cons: "Screen size is a little small on some settings"

  • Excerpt: After hearing many horror stories about Philips' CD players, I was very hesitant to buy this DVD player. But after having it for a couple of weeks, I must say the Dutch electronics giant delivered a very overall pleasing player at a very competitive price. The only thing keeping me from giving it a higher rating is the design flaw that causes the sound output to decrease by roughly 50% when resuming play after having switched from fast-forward to slow-motion directly.
  • Pros: easy to use,  quality of build is high
  • Cons: design flaw with sound

  • Excerpt: I thought long and hard before I purchased this DVD player from PHILIPS. I weighed up all the pros and cons and the ins and outs and the advantages and disadvantages.I didnt just go for the cheapest machine either...for that would have been the easy way out. The first thing that cought my eye was the beautiful 'sleek' look of the machine (Silver-grey/black) and the increddible 'quietness' of its opperation..as was kindly demonstrated to me, by the sales-man.

An excellent player for under 200 pounds

  • Excerpt: I was badgered into getting a DVD player mostly by my kids, so I set them a challenge: If you can find a DVD that will play not only DVD/CD but CD re-writeables for under £200 then we'll get one. I sat back smugly waiting for them to draw a blank. Luckily they found the 711. It's good to look at and easy to set up / use. I chose the black finish to match the VCR and telly but I believe it's available in a silver finish as well.
  • Pros: Dual laser which will play ANY discs
  • Cons: None found yet

Top Class, Budget DVD Player.

  • Excerpt: Considering this Player costs under £200 in most stores, it is positively packed with features. It is simple to install and configure, and a dream to use. The DVD-711 is among the few 'budget' DVD Players to have two SCART sockets, a feature which many other sub-£200 players lack. Add into the bargain S-VHS Output, Optical Digital Audio Out, Coaxial Digital Audio out, Sterio Out, and Composite Video out, it is an absolute bargain.
  • Pros: Excellent Quality, Functionality and Price
  • Cons: Runs a little Hot

  • Pros: Sleek and 'virtually silent' during use .  .  . too many features to mention
  • Cons: It would be unfair of me to say anything bad !
