Summary: A word to the wise - the product specifications list this player as dual voltage (in fact so does the Panasonic web page for the unit) but it is in fact 110V only. Fortunately Newegg was understanding and was willing to allow me to return the item. A shame - it looks like an excellent DVD player!
Pros: Quiet, good picture using component cables (haven't tried HDMI), and attractive low-profile.
Cons: Could use basic navigation buttons on the player itself, if you loose the remote you're limited to hitting play (really only a problem if you movie has standard and wide-screen on the same disk, and your wife's locked herself in the bathroom with the remote).
Pros: Still using only component outputs waiting on the Egg to get some more of the HDMI to DVI converters in stock. However, even with only the component outputs hooked up, the picture quality on older and newer DVDS is acceptable. So far it has played every DVD I've stuck in it. Looking forward to gi...
Cons: Take your time with the users manual and familiarize yourself with the different setup options. It's a little fuzzy at first, but after exploring and re-reading the manual I got the knack of it.
Summary: It came for free with a TV I bought at the same time from Newegg. A free progressive scan DVD player with HDMI and HD upsampling is hard to beat.
Pros: This DVD player easily connects by HDMI and worked immediately out of the box. I plugged it in, I turned it on, it printed "HELLO" on the front of the player, I put a DVD in the drive and it started playing. The manual was clear and easy to understand about how to optimize the display for HDTVs a...
Summary: Blue Ray is for those with to much Money. When they come down to 89 bucks and include the ability tp play my current collection at 1080i Ill check them out.
Pros: Price, Picture Quailty, Cost of DVD's. I have not seen a New Blue Ray Player to be honest or one attached to a realy exspensive HD TV of any type. I do have somewhere around 300 DVD movie collection that I can use with this DVD player that from my taste has a realy nice picture on my LCD HD 32" a...
Pros: This DVD player rocks!!! the upsample ability is great. It will play anything I put in it. I just cant say enough good things about it. Currently it is hooked up to my 40in LCD tv and it is amazing. I will be buying another one for my other TV very soon.
Summary: I own the following players: Sony DVP-NS501P Philips DVP 642 Lite-on LVW-5005 Panasonic DVD-S52 The panasonic has been the best buy for the buck. It has had the fewest (if any) problems with disc formats and is by far the fastest loading.
Pros: HDMI, coax and optical audio, Price, fast loading, multi-format playback, lightweight, easy to use.
Cons: No screen saver that I've found, but with LCD it doesn't matter. Plus I'm not sure if the screen displayed would actually cause burn-in (no text or actual images)
Summary: No HDMI cable, but one wasn't expected. No DVI output, but I knew that before buying it. I haven't tried the upconvert yet, but will soon. Order filling and shipping was incredibly fast, standard practice for Newegg that keeps me coming back for more. Thanks, Newegg!
Pros: It plays all my backup copies of DVDs, even slightly damaged ones (damaged from heavy use in the car). Scan time is very quick. Menus are simple and well laid out. Remote is easy to get accustomed to and use. So far I can say that I'd recommend this player.
Cons: Flimsy tray. It's very thin. I won't be able to let my 3 year old use this by herself until she can understand it's not a place to put her stuffed animals. Also, the tray doesn't have depressions on the side to allow you to pick up the DVD from its sides. No biggie, just something to get used to....
