Summary: It takes forever to start up, it freezes once a week (meaning you have to unplug the unit and plug it back in,) switching channels in digital mode works when it wants to. I use to be a fan of Panasonic, after buying this product I have now refused to buy anything Panasonic. I have had this product for over a year now and I'll probably just throw it away. Thought about putting it up on eBay, but I wouldn't give this to my own worst enemy.
Summary: Hard to use, in fact we only use it as a player now. We use our PC instead for any video DVD recording. It is a basically the same as the early to mid year VHS recorders; difficult to program, quirky, the recorded video is not DVD quality, and every time the power goes off the clock starts flashing.
Summary: I've had this product for a year and wish i read the reviews first. It shuts off at random. It will freeze up at least once every two days and Panasonic doesn't know why. I've unplugged the unit over and over to unfreeze it. I can't stop it from showing a label on the tv screen saying it's a dvd or a videotape----I know what media I'm watching why keep reminding me? I'm going to buy a different brand for Christmas and just watch old vhs tapes on this one.
Summary: Command response is SLOW. Very frustrating. Timed recording is iffy. Sometimes it records. Sometimes it doesn't. I missed viewing many TV show because of it. I hate this unit. I used to trust the Panasonic brand but now I will never again buy another Panasonic product.
Summary: The DMR-EZ47V has so many 'quirks' and Panasonic Customer Service is so awful that I would highly recommend NOT purchasing this unit or any closely related to it. There are lots of reviews out there so why trust me? I have a degree in Computers and am more technical than most. I read manuals for fun. I use more of the obscure features in a (phone/recorder/gizmo) than most and will spend hours experimenting to see exactly how it works.
Summary: Okay so lets step back and look at this. It does record, it can transfer your old VHS tapes to dvd if that's all you want, you can watch some divx files on it with the SD card slot and you have the general ability to record when you're not home but when it comes down to everything else, it's a piece of garbage. No amount of switching the settings really results in a decent picture.
Summary: I have the DMR-ES46V, which is last years model. Nice features, but it died with code U99 after only 18 months. No repair, it is gone. Hope they have improved reliability. I am shopping today for a replacement. It will not be a Panasonic. I am looking for reliability. I am an electrical engineer and am very careful of my equipment. The unit had good cooling location and careful use.
Summary: I bought this unit a little over a year ago as a replacement for my LG until that was worthless and this one has totally crapped out on me. It locks up every day. It locks up when it starts a scheduled time recording. It looses sound and you have to unplug it and wait to get the sound back. And now it is not recording scheduled recordings. Panasonic refuses to answer help requests. Buyer beware!
Summary: I've struggled this this DVR for over a year. I freezes, inexplicable skips scheduled recordings, and has made so many disks that would not "finalize" that I have lost count. Very frustrated and will NEVER buy another Panasonic. There is no such thing as a "fair price" for a product that inflicts this much pain!
