Summary: At first the unit worked fine. Then it would occasionally freeze up (i.e. none of the controls would work, not even the power button), the only solution being to unplug the power cord and then replug. After a while, it was constantly freezing AND the scheduled recording was no longer reliable. At that point I gave up. Reading other people's reviews of Panasonic DVD recorders, it is clear that mine is not an isolated case.
Summary: Hi there, I've owned this DVD recorder for over 2 years now and I love it. Mine was a refurb but you couldn't really tell. I have recorded large amounts of DVD's. I converted tons of VHS movies to DVD and it has never failed. I used to own a Sony recorder and got rid of it after a lil' while because of the large amount of "coasters" that it created.
Summary: 1. It took a while to narrow down, but the speaker hiss I hear is coming from this unit. This ocurrs from either input, tape and DVD. 2. It will let you think you are recording to DVD from DirecTV, but won't tell you the program was Copy Protected until you return to Finalize. 3. User Guide is not comprehensive. 4. Remote has no Mute. 5. Print in black areas of remote is difficult to see, and why don't they use the age old term "Tracking"? 6.
Panasonic failure rates and poor quality-not worth the trouble!

Summary: We bought a Panasonic DMR-ES35V DVD/VCR digital recorder, had to return it to Sears when it froze up and couldn't be used! The telephone tech talked me thru a reboot, which worked for about an hour. Took it back to sears. The new one did the same exact thing a week later. Got a refund at Sears, bought another at Best Buys...it failed the same way just out of warranty.
Summary: This unit is a piece of crap. I had it one month and it was great, excellent picture and I thought it was the best. But then it happened, odd things started happening, the navigator functions were flashing on and off and unit was turning itself on and off, changing channels and displaying navigation functions. Then all of a sudden, everything returned to normal for about 3 months, and then it would display no disc when one was inserted.
Summary: Great unit, good reception, record TV programming on 4 hour mode looks and sound good. Unit takes time to turn on must be patient. There is a mode that keeps power to unit so it responds quicker, but that costs extra electricity. Occationally unit will freeze and you have to press the reset button. Overall I'd buy it again.
Summary: I bought this as my last vcr died after only a year.I only record my wifes soap opra while shes at work.Wow why didnt I do this years ago,I suppose they use to cost more.I paid 147.00 w/ shipping. It records GREAT,even the vcr part does. There are inputs for recording off you cable,or sat box.Plus a timer to go off when you want it to.Using a +rw disc, you just delete after you watch it,that takes like 15 seconds, then its ready to go again.plus you can record from dvd to...
Summary: I wanted to wait a while before reviewing this item. We bought this back in May of 2008 as our old VCR finally bit the dust and we wanted something to play our old VHS tapes and DVDs with the option of recording. It has done okay so far. I haven't personally recorded anything but my husband has. I found the instruction booklet confusing pertaining to recording with the DVDs (but I'm not very patient), my husband was able to figure it out.
