A good little machine if you're willing to pay a little extra for quality.

Excerpt: Prior to having our Virgin V plus box, we were in desperate need for a PVR (Personal video recorder) for our main TV in the lounge. We've always had Panasonic products and wanted to stick with this particular brand. The DMR-EX79 sounded like a great buy, albeit a tad over what we wanted to pay, but the one thing that we wanted was a recordable DVD player too, which this model had.
If you want a DVD player that can also record with ease, then this is the device for you.

Excerpt: I recently purchased this HDD/DVD recorder and player from John Lewis. I have always wanted to experiment with one of these devices and decided to actually go and buy one for our Panasonic television. The player and the TV are both 'Viera Link' compatible, meaning they link up together extremely easily and makes the user experience much more pleasurable and simplistic. So if you're going to buy this device, I highly recommend using it with a Panasonic television.
Summary: We have had the Panasonic DMR-EX79 for about 3 months. It cost somewhat more than the Panasonic VCR/DVD recorder which it replaced and which in turn replaced a Tevion VCR/DVD recorder which was about half the price. These Panasonic sets ares not as user-friendly as the much cheaperTevion.
Pros: DVD's recorded so far have played satisfactorily on a couple of other sets as well as out own.
Cons: Will not play some (legitimate, not pirated) Region 4 DVD's tho' designated a Region 4 player including Lord Clarke's "Civilisation" and Bragg's "Adventure of English" both published by the BBC: Panasonic's dismissal of the matter, alleging that the BBC must market an inferior product.
Excerpt: Introduction Having bought a nice new television (Recently reviewed) I was looking for a new DVD player to go with it and knowing a bit about Hifi and Home Cinema I opted for a player from the same brand Panasonic. I have always been very impressed with any Panasonic product I have owned or seen in a home.
Summary: For DVD/HDD recorders, Panasonic is best for reasons of quality, usability and edit features. DVD RAM compatibility (Samsung has it too now) is more useful than you might think - very good for archiving items you might want to copy back onto the HDD or edit later. The partial delete function which allows you to remove adverts is crucial, and this can be done on DVD RAM too, though the process is much quicker on HDD.
All round good DVD player but not much use for anything else TBH

Excerpt: We bought this with our new TV and so far have not been too impressed with the recording features of the device. So this DVD recorder should be ideal to record your programs either via FreeView using the built-in tuner or via FreeSat through our Panasonic TV. Well alas we still have not managed to get anything to automatically record any TV program.
