Disappointing product from Panasonic

Soofwan M., Newegg
20 June 2007
  • Pros: Price thats all!
  • Cons: This is a cheaply made unit, not what you expect from Panasonic, I bought it for HDMI upscaling, it does not do a good job of it. Menus are not easy to follow either.

Has to format disks

Cynthia Z., Newegg
8 June 2007
  • Pros: Never used it
  • Cons: Has to format DVD+RW disk before using. This process takes a long time therefore making it unusable for my needs. Remote control only worked for about 10 button pushes then quit. I replaced the batteries and still didnt work.

Works for me!

  • Summary: For me, variable bit rate is a big deal! This unit has it, and it works flawlessly. Excellent product for my needs.
  • Pros: I bought the unit specifically for recording content from my TiVo. Using a DVD-RAM disk, and the FR (Flexible Recording) mode, the unit optimizes the bitrate for the length of a given recording. Then I turn the movie (or whatever) into a real DVD (which can be played on any DVD player) by using D...

Worth it for the $$

Anonymous, Newegg
19 May 2007
  • Summary: DVD-RAM has limitations in that you can't easily make copies onto DVD media that will work in a DVD player...so use non-RAM media if you want to make playable copies of the original recordings.
  • Pros: I mainly use this recorder with DVD+RW disks made by by M*****X. I've had very good results and have been successful in burning working copies of these onto DVD +/-R disks using my PC. As an inexpensive replacement for a VCR, this unit meets my needs very well. Glad I bought it... especially from...
  • Cons: Some minor annoyances like long power up/down times...but nothing really negative to say

Panasonic DMR-ES25S

Ranjit A., Newegg
9 May 2007
  • Summary: Overall, I bought this player to view my DVDs in HDMI. But it failed in the first step.
  • Pros: Good Price. Many Features. Easy connectivity to external Devices.
  • Cons: HDMI Output is not at all noticeable when compared to my existing DVD player playback. No Full screen option in HDMI output playback. Two black bars appear in the top & Bottom. Tech support confirmed that it is a known issue and asked me to return the player.

DVD-RAM only for all 16x9 Format

Anonymous, Newegg
28 March 2007
  • Summary: There are many lacking standard remote features, so playback can be tiresome. If you don’t believe me, get and read the manual from Panasonic before you buy. If you intend to use this as a CD/MP3 player with your stereo, be warned that you need to have your TV on to tell which track is currently...
  • Pros: Good picture and sound quality. It reads my mini DV tape (Cannon) by “Firewire”, but it is not a “lossless” transfer and my DVD-RAM recordings are useless for most players. The recorder will record full screen on DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW discs, but there are no real menus or chapter edits and it wil...
  • Cons: I bought it to transfer my 16x9 mini DV tape home videos. This recorder will only allow chapter edits, useful menus and Wide Screen (16x9) format on DVD-RAM discs. Anyone that does not have a DVD-RAM compatible player CAN NOT play RAM discs (most current home players are not compatible). I had to...

Good Easy To Use Recorder

17 July 2007
  • Excerpt: I began a search to find a DVD recorder which will enable me to capture video form a few different sources, and eventually I came across this model. I checked out different models and all have pros & cons, but this one seemed to be the one I needed.
  • Pros: VERY flexible, reasonable cost .
  • Cons: Lame menu creation by user, lacks some info on display .
