Summary: I bought this to record my home vcr tapes to dvd. It works great. I also thought since it had time slip I would be using it with tv shows and rewritable discs but then I got a dual tuner dvr from my cable provider and haven't had to use that feature. It is great for copying shows off the dvr when something comes on I want to send to family. Directions are practically in pigeon English and require patience. Not bad for the money and picture quality is ok.
Summary: This is an excellent unit and I would definitely recommend as one of the best recorders in the class without a hard drive. The DVD-RAM compatibility works as a low-storage capability substitute for the lack of a hard drive (9.4GB DVD-RAM discs are available). Using DVD-RAM discs allow you full editing freedom (cut, delete ads, order, etc.) of recorded media. Unfortunately of course very few other units can play the RAM format.
Summary: NO LONGER FINALIZES DISCS. TIME TO CALL CUSTOMER SERVICE. after reading several reviews of dvd recorders, i chose this one and am not disappointed. it records dvd-ram just as it is broadcast live, more or less, there is no difference. the dvd-rw are a little distorted on 6hr record time, but that's to be expected. it does the same job that my eight year old panasonic vhs recorder does. thanks for producing a good product.
Summary: Pass this one by for the ES-15 which has more features and capability. But if you can get it cheap, it is a good entry level recorder. The next step up is a HD recorder which is much better for time shift viewing, but the ES-20 is fine for doing the same as long as you have plenty of DVD-RW or DVD RAM disks. The RAM is better for editing out commercials and setting up chapters. It is an excellent machine for transferring home VHS movies to DVD-R.
I have no idea what these bashers are talking about

Summary: Like any electronic device, you need to read the manual before using to ensure you properly set up the device and know how to use it. I have had the recorder for 6 months now and have burned over 50 movies from my DVR (Tivo for those who only know DVR as such)without a problem. ALthough I find that DVD+ format is faster than DVD-, but this is because Panasonic chose + to be its prefered format. NO difference in quality between + and -.
Summary: I have tried about 8 different DVD recorders and this is one of the better ones. I'ts fan is quiet and the design is good. The recorder is very good at duplicating the original signal recorded in XP,SP, & LP modes. It has all the inputs and outputs that you need plus a optical digital output. The only problem that I have had with this recorder is that when the front display is set to automatic the clock does't show. It does work in the dim or bright mode.
Summary: Had read some other reviews prior to purchase and thought, OK let's get it. I have been very pleased with it. I really didn't expect it to perform as well as it does? The copies from VHS to DVD are better than the VHS original! Playing the finalized DVD's on other systems, computers etc is no problem at all. Not even a blip! TV to DVD, VHS to DVD+R is easy. The DVD Ram discs are great. For the money I would not hesitate again to purchase this product.
Summary: This is one of the best Panasonic had made. It is made in Singapore and very good quality unlike Made in China products. It has fast play for new DVDs... very user friendly and works like a charm. All the features are excellent. I highly recommend it. Also had DV input for your Mini DV camcorder. This is great!
