For what it's worth, none of the BD Live applications shown to date are particularly compelling, so you may not feel inclined to wait. The real Blu-ray revolution begins here. Read more

Panasonic DMP-BD30 Blu-ray Player
Reviewer: hometheaterhifi.com31 March 2008A few years ago, Panasonic released a batch of progressive scan DVD players that took everyone by surprise, offering unsurpassed 480p performance at a price that was almost too good to be true. Unfortunately this trend didn’t last long. Panasonic later went on to release some decent upscaling and progressive scan DVD players, but they relied on some Genesis/Faroudja chips that had inconsistent performance with displays and never quite lived up to the bar set by their ... After living with Panasonic's latest Blu-ray Disc player for a few weeks, we've only grown more attached to it. This is one solid high definition player, for a very affordable price. Read more

Panasonic DMP-BD30 Profile 1.1 Blu-ray Player
Reviewer: hometheatermag.com16 December 2007The DMP-BD30, however, not only carries a significantly lower price tag ($499), but is a completely new design as well. In one important way it takes us closer to the ideal feature set that should have been designed into Blu-ray players in the first place. In another respect, however, it takes a step backward. Panasonic DMP-BD30 Blu-ray player
Reviewer: review.prillaman.net27 November 2007First, a little musing on the effects of the format war on how I'm using my BD30 and its HD-DVD neighbor. As I mentioned in my HD-A2 review, I'm not investing much in either format's software at the moment. I've bought just a handful of titles on each format, and once my five free Blu-ray discs arrive some time this winter I'll have ten free discs (five of each format) and probably a dozen more titles, with HD-DVD having a slight edge. I'm also not investing in standa... Read more

Great Unit But Overpriced.
Reviewer: J. Coleman "ChefJeff", Amazon2 weeks ago- Overall 8

For what it does, I give it a definite thumbs up! Was reading the reviews about the Sony and Samsung Blu-Ray players, didn't want to wait 3-5 min for a disc to play, so I got the Panasonic. No waiting at all, just load the disc and your on your way. Very easy to operate, and downloading the firmware upgrade was a snap. I can't fully appreciate the capabilities of this player yet, I have a 1080i LCD. But when you see a movie in 1080p, you'll be blown away. Gonna get th... Read more

Excellent Player!!
Reviewer: victorman23, Bestbuy16 November 2007- Overall 10

"Excellent unit in every way, I have owned the Panasonic BD 10AK, Samsung BD 1400, Sony Playstation 3 (60Gb) and none of them come close to this performance level. Richest colors and deepest blacks that I have ever seen and I have only 1080i (cannot wait to upgrade my TV). This ahs all the latest features including decoding of all the major BD formats. You will not be dissappointed." Read more

Help on putting it all together.
...g Blu will have won within a few months it might make more sense to get a Blu-ray player that also upconverts. It looks like the Samsung BD-P1400 is quite good at upconverting and works properly with the latest firmware update, but loads very slowly. The Panasonic DMPBD30 seems equally popular and loads quickly, but would mean another remote. Is there a compelling reason to go with one or the other, or is it just a question of which ever is on sale when I happen to buy? Is there any other that would be even better? I have t...
