As one of the first stand alone Blu-Ray players, the Panasonic DMP-BD10 is sure to stand out in the crowd. In fact, the only other player of this kind is the BD-P1000 offered by Samsung. The question on everybody’s mind is if the Panasonic DMP-BD10 is worth the high $1,300 sticker price.

The first thing that you will notice about the DMP-BD10 is its clean, glossy black design. Of course the look of the model has nothing to do with how well it performs, but giving off a first impression of quality is always a good thing.

As you take your eyes off the front of the unit and look at the back, you will notice several components. The back panel features S video outputs, composite video outputs, and HDMI components. If you do not know what these are for you can find out everything you need in the detailed instruction manual.

Although the DMP-BD10 is capable of playing Blu-ray discs, it also supports DVD Video, CD, DVD-Audio, jpeg, MP3, and CD. With all of these options this model is quite versatile to say the least.

Slow load times bogged the DMP-BD10 down from the start. It takes about 15 seconds for the unit to power on and open up, and then another 15 or so for the disc to start playing. While this is an improvement over the earlier HD DVD players, it is not quite as good as it could be.

As far as picture quality is concerned the DMP-BD10 has a lot to offer. Picture and color details are spectacular, and this is a good thing since this is why most people will purchase a player such as this one.

The Panasonic DMP-BD10 is paving the way for stand alone Blu-Ray players of the future. But with that being said, this model does a good job in its own right.
