Review Summary

The Marantz DV4001 is known to be an attractive DVD deck with the kind of robust build you had expect from Marantz. With its thick aluminium fascia, a double-layer bottom plate and shock absorbing feet to set it apart from the swarms of balsa-wood budget players. It does make it heavy but it’s passable when you think that at the same time it also helps to minimize the internet vibration and mechanical jitter. Its deck is effortlessly attractive; it doesn’t give you the need to resort to the ostentatious attention-grabbing antics of many budget decks. This is one such brand that invested money in its DVD player to boost its build quality and to have it fitted with high-grade components like the Analog Devices 108MHz/12-bit video DAC and 192kHz/24-bit audio DACs for each channel. Among its playback features are Divx, MP3, WMA and JPEG which can also be found in other players. You don’t have to worry about the connectivity as it’s quite solid. An electrical digital audio output is available together with two remote control sockets equip it for custom installation. Another setting provided is the HDMI output that sends upscaled video to your TV or projector, while the RGB and component video outputs offer high-quality analogue. Its menus are considered to be a bit generic but good thing is that it’s easy to navigate. It also helps when the remote is well designed as that won’t confuse its users on how to operate it. Some of its users think that the Marantz DV4001 somewhat is lacking some important features. Like for example, there’s mp 5.1 channel output which basically means that there’s no DVD-Audio or internal Dolby Digital/DTS decoding. Despite that, the Marantz DV4001 has a well built and good performance by producing high quality images and impressive sound.
