So far so good

Steve N., Newegg
28 November 2006
  • Pros: Works like it should so far. It is picky on DVD media. I use Philips 4x DVD+RW's for most recording and transfer to PC for final cut. I believe this is the same as the sample +RW media they give you with the machine. RiData 100 pack 8x DVD+R media is good if want to do direct burn and forget. I'v...
  • Cons: Other than picky about media, none so far.

I love this machine!

Hany Y., Newegg
11 October 2006
  • Summary: I hope it won't stop working after 2 months as others have been saying...
  • Pros: I got this DVD recorder almost a month ago and I have transferred at least 25 VHS tapes to DVD and I loaned to a friend of mine who burnt stuff from her Tivo onto DVDs. I am using TDK DVD+R (I bought 100 for $xx). It never gave me any problems. I am using this recorder with a Sima image stabilize...
  • Cons: Nothing bad so far

Great to backup VHS tapes

Allen W., Newegg
28 September 2006
  • Summary: If you are troubled by Macrovision, buy a Sima GoDVD to remove it on tapes and dvds
  • Pros: Easy to use, makes great copies of TV progs or VHS tapes. Seems to Like +R disks better than -R.

The old tricks still work

Anonymous, Newegg
16 September 2006
  • Pros: Google for LVW-5005 hack to discover some unadvertized features of this recorder. The one I just bought was manufactured Dec 2005 and the old tricks still work.

excellent !!

Anonymous, Newegg
18 July 2006
  • Pros: I have had nothing but good luck with all Lite-On products. Reads anything, records perfectly, what more do you want? I have not updated the firmware as there has been no need. I am impressed.
  • Cons: It's cheaper now than when I bought mine so that stinks, otherwise, none.

Good overall player

Manuel R., Newegg
29 June 2006
  • Summary: Very good player, considering I bought it back when it was three times as much as it costs now. Does its job wonderfully, despite taking look to stop recording and not playing a handful of DVD's.
  • Pros: I have owned this player for over two years (didn't think it was in existence any more) and for the past two years, it has worked wonderfully well. It records with very good quality and so far, it has worked with every blank DVD I bought from Fuji, Legacy, and Memorex.
  • Cons: I have bought a few DVD's that do not work on this player. One that comes to mind is SWAT which must be played from my PS2 in order for me to watch it. This player takes a long time to load and it takes over 10 seconds to stop recording after you pressed stop.

So Far, The Ultimate "World Player/Recorder" the LVW-5005

STEVEN A., Newegg
18 June 2006
  • Summary: It works, it will after the firmware updates (see owners manual for updates and procedures, then google this player model and firmware) play ALL "Your" Dvds, VCDs, Regions, etc. without a complaint. I love mine and have enjoyed it for 18+ months and counting :)
  • Pros: 1,000 Positives to name a few :) The best is it does exactly what it says it does. It is cheap in price, not in quality. The firmware "upgrades" available on internet make this a do about everything player and recorder, easy as 1-2-3, just google them.
  • Cons: *NO CONS* (read more)...Like a few other products made outside the US, the On-Screen display could be improved as well as the remote control keys. But they do the job and they work without any problems.
