Good while it worked

Manuel R., Newegg
2 December 2006
  • Summary: This device works good while it lasts. For the price now, it does a good job but if it starts acting on you out of nowhere, get ready to beat the machine up because it just gets me on my nerves.
  • Pros: When it worked, it burned every show I threw at it without any issues and supported all DVD's I purchased. Cost me a few hundred when I bought it a couple of years ago but it was the newest and one of the most affordable ones. Plays movies, music, and shows pictures like its supposed to.
  • Cons: No DivX support, which isn't really the machines fault since it was released a few years ago when I purchased it. Out of nowhere, this thing started to act like it was a bootleg machine. I have to spend a good 5 minutes every time I put a DVD in because it keeps opening and closing the tray nonst...

Decent Set-Top

Anonymous, Newegg
20 November 2006
  • Summary: This is a nice recorder with more than enough features for the casual user. It's recording quality is quite good, but it does have one flaw. I have a dvd camcorder, which writes onto mini dvd's (dvd-r, etc) which it has a very hard time reading and playing.
  • Pros: Quality, ease of use, style.
  • Cons: Has trouble with mini dvd's.

An All around great DVD Recorder!

Elvisrey A., Newegg
3 September 2006
  • Summary: If you dont want to buy another DVD recorder if the drive is messed up, you can upgrade the drive, just plug in a New Lite-On DVD Burner you can buy off Newegg's website, and plug and play! You can find more info about it, just do a google search. Hope this helps out!
  • Pros: Records all formats, i havent seen other DVD recorders burn on CD Audio
  • Cons: If you use it too much, the drive will wear out and you will notice some problems reading disks, or finalizing problems. Also i noticed when the drive was about to knock out, the

A very good low cost DVD recorder

Yudhveer B., Newegg
26 August 2006
  • Pros: I have this particular DVD recorder for about 2 years and it has worked very well. It records any program from Cable and Satellite channels as compared to some other expensive highly recognized name brand DVD recorders which refuse to record many programs.
  • Cons: I did have a problem with it after about 10 months of use when it refused to read any DVD even pre-recorded original DVDs I had bought. I called the Technical Support Center and after asking me to go through few checks I was told to ship the unit for service. It was shipped back to me in a week a...

  • Summary: Thius is a great unit for the price. I got it to dub my home VHS tapes to DVDs and it is a simple and excellent method. Would not hesitate to buy another. Needless to say, Newegg had the best price with outstanding service.
  • Pros: Price, features, ability to record on various types and brands of DVDs and CDs. Ease of use
  • Cons: Sometimes in the 6 hour mode I have noticed a problem in recording/playback

Lite-On LVW-5005X

Daniel E., Newegg
11 January 2006
  • Summary: I gave this a 4 star [egg] rating because of the price. Otherwise it would rate 3 eggs. For recordings of 4 hours or less, this is the DVD recorder to purchase. For my very old video tapes and tapes that were recorded in SLP I found the grain to be too harsh using anything other than RF cables.
  • Pros: Low price. Records on most DVD and CD formats. It comes with a recommended list of disk manufacturers, disk types, and model numbers to use. Though not on the list, my 16X Verbatim DVD-R work fine. Easy configuration of functions, easy guider works very well. Very good results in 1 hour mode, goo...
  • Cons: Takes a second or two to begin recording. No 3 hour recording format. A great deal of artifacts in 6 hour recording mode. Unit gets fairly warm during winter climate, the manual recommends not placing anything under it that can interfere with cool airflow from the bottom. The manual is not comple...

Great unit - but needs replacement

Anonymous, Newegg
3 November 2005
  • Summary: I was initially impressed with the versatility, ease of use and excellent recording quality of this unit. However, I had to RMA the unit after about six months, and now it has expired ( an ex-DVD recorder) after about 19 months.
