Summary: There are very few DVD/VCR player combo units that are now available. Most are from lower quality brands like Magnavox, Memorex or Sylvania. None of these compare to this JVC unit. The JVC DVD/VCR is a very High Quality Item. It takes about 5 minutes to hook up and you are ready to go. The picture is beautiful and the sound is great. If you do not need a Blu-ray player and you still have VCR tapes to play, then this is the DVD/VCR player combo for you.
Summary: I bought this as a present for my girlfriend because she had a bunch of old video tapes without a vcr to play them on and her dvd player was terrible (and she lost the remote to it). I shopped around and found this to be the best mix of quality / price. After using it a few times, it does everything as advertised. Auto-tracking on the tapes was fast and great. We haven't had one that looked bad yet.
Summary: First let me say the only reason I bought this was because I wanted a silver DVD/VCR combo that wasn't "cheap" like a Sylvania from Kmart. There are over a dozen black combo units out there today but it's surprisingly hard to find them in any other finish. The first one I tried was a Philips but it turned out to be plasticky, flimsy and too shallow to sit my DVR on top of it.
