Summary: I purchased my Audiovox D1998PK at Costco. After several months, the unit was not taking a charge from the plug in charger or the car charger. I read the owners manual and learned that an internal battery required service from Audiovox. I took the unit to the Audiovox repair center in Hauppauge, NY where I was told the cost of repair would be $98.43! For that amount I could buy a new unit - NO THANKS - next time I'll buy a different brand.
Summary: Bought this at Costco a few years ago and have had great luck since! One small complaint is that without the headphones the sound is sometimes not loud enough (depending on the DVD). Apart from that, it has worked beautifully, have used it a lot and never had a problem with it at all. Also plays CDs!
Don't be fooled, this is NOT a region free DVD player

Summary: I just bought this player from B&H Photo-Video-Audio and it was delivered yesterday. It was advertised as a region free dvd player on B&H's site and on multiple other sites. However, it only plays DVDs from region 1. I called Audiovox's customer service and they confirmed that this model only plays region 1 DVDs.
Summary: The DVD player was excellent while it was working. Speakers were loud enough for my son to hear in the car on the interstate (albeit at max volume). Screen resolution was better than any other player of its class (size and price). Carrying case offers little padding for the unit, but was not too hard to use as a headrest holder in the car. The headphones were comfortable and made listening in the car much better.
Summary: The Audiovox D1998PK does not play VCD. When I called tech support. The response is that it is not a "problem". Their older models can play VCD. It is a marketing and engineering decision not to support it. They give you less-and-less and this is not a problem. This is good management and marketing skills. Don't buy from Audiovox, you can find a better DVD player elsewhere.
Summary: Purchased this at our local Costco. Used only once or twice, then a tiny piece of plastic on the adapter (the piece that attaches to the DVD player to charge it) on the charging cord broke (not dropped or otherwise traumatized) and now I cannot find a replacement. The quality of the actual DVD player was great. I bought this to replace the older model Audiovox we'd had for >5 years (and had finally worn itself out!) Very disappointed in the quality of the adapter.
