Zendoku

Digital Chumps
18 March 2008
  • Conclusion: Ultimately Zendoku is going to turn any non-Sudoku player into one, so it will really only appeal to Sudoku players, who already have a lot of DS games to choose from and may or may not be interested in the battle system in Zendoku. It’s not really a bad Sudoku game, and if you’re hooked on Sudoku you might give this one a rental to see if Secret Stash Games’ approach interests you.

Puzzle Meets Pummeling

GIN
1 October 2007
  • Excerpt: I was never really into crossword puzzles or the word scramble, but when Sudoku started showing up in newspapers I was game. They're addicting and give you some false sense that you're doing some sort of math since you're using numbers. But with the slew of Sudoku games recently coming out for the DS, it makes you wonder who's paying up good video game money for these puzzles they can get for free everywhere else.

Zendoku

GamersHell.com
18 September 2007
  • Excerpt: Zendoku is a fun, fast-paced way to fill your craving for more Sudoku puzzles. By pitting you against an opponent (AI or multiplayer), the game provides an interesting twist on the standard Sudoku play, with interspersed mini-games in addition to a timer turning it into more of an action-puzzler than a crossword.

Zendoku

Auracore MediaWorks
30 July 2007
  • Summary: Strange goofiness abounds in Eidos' new fusion of Anime and Sudoku.
  • Pros: Colourful graphics that are as appealing as Sudoku graphics can get; a goofy sense of humor that never forgets to revel in its own cheesiness; touch screen controls are functional and easy to use; lots of characters to unlock and play as; a great game of Sudoku for veterans and newbs alike.
  • Cons: If you don't like Sudoku, this won't change your mind; the anime motif may not appeal to everyone; using symbols instead of numbers in the quest mode may be confusing for some; CPU attacks in quest mode can get annoying; if you're like me, you'll end up with bite marks on your stylus from thinking too hard.

Game Freaks 365
29 June 2007
  • Excerpt: Continuing the Nintendo DS tradition of casual gaming, Eidos has released Zendoku for the system. A sudoku spinoff, Zendoku replaces the 1-9 number system used in sudoku and uses icons such as pandas, swords, Yin-Yang symbols and others. At first it will seem foreign to players most familiar with traditional sudoku, but the zendoku icons quickly become just as simple and possibly even easier than the number based system.

Official Nintendo Magazine
4 April 2008
  • Excerpt: Yes, we know what you're thinking: "sudoku was soooo 2006, I'm bored with it now." But give Zendoku a chance. Maybe it's the game that will revolutionise sudoku and make it more than just a simple grid-based puzzle game. Maybe it's a surprise gem that has us glued to our DSes every lunchtime. And maybe it's the sort of enjoyable game we'll continue playing for years to come. It's not, though.
