Yoshi's Island DS is a thoroughly enjoyable platformer, but it's not going to make the same impact as its illustrious predecessor. Read more
Overall, Yoshi’s Island DS is still a remarkable game, and definitely one that will please followers of the original. There’s a few niggles with the visuals and sound, not to mention the fact a few things seem to feel recycled from previous outings. Still, its chock full of secrets and exploration thanks to the addition of four new babies, and will keep you busy for some time attempting to uncover everything. Read more
Eleven years. It’s been 11 long years since Yoshi’s Island, the last 2D Mario platformer for 10½ years until the recent New Super Mario Bros, was released. YI instantly became a favorite for many gamers, due to its unique visual style and creative take on Mario platforming. Since then, some Mario-less Yoshi platformers were attempted, but very few people were satisfied. Read more

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island was a Super Nintendo classic. Rather than putting the weight on Mario to save the day, it was the flutter-kicking, egg-throwing Yoshi who was in the spotlight. In fact, Mario was a mere baby! The game introduced a lot more collecting to the platforming Mario style. It also took emphasis off of jumping on enemies and blocks to solve puzzles and asked you to become a master of egg throwing. Read more
Yoshi’s Island first appeared its colorful little self on the Super Nintendo and quickly gained fanfare and respect in the platforming community. The game enables players to play as the lovable dinosaur Yoshi, who takes care of the mustache-less baby Mario. Nearly a decade later Nintendo has brought back this title onto their Nintendo DS with even more babies to take care of. Does this game live up to its heritage or will it surpass it? Read more
THE VERDICT: Yoshi's Island DS is an addictive game and fans of Yoshi or 2D platformers will get their money's worth. However, Nintendo raised expectations for the DS with NSMB that they just failed to deliver on this time round. Read more
It's the Yoshi formula, sure. But it takes the basics, adds a bit of salt, and creates a recipe that tastes similarly to the original, but still has that warm, fuzzy flavor that’s hard to forget and let go. Read more
QuickView Good: Retains spirit of the original classic Bad: Retains it a bit TOO much I remember sitting in the Kodak Theater at Nintendo's E3 press conference in May when three titles were announced for the DS. The first two were interesting enough (new entries in the Starfox and Diddy Kong Racing series), but it was the third one that really excited me. It was a sequel to the classic Yoshi's Island, which I consider to be perhaps the greatest platformer of all time. Read more
Don’t let the score fool you, the story and originality are the only detractors to Yoshi’s Island DS , which are pretty minor issues considering that this is a Mario-esque platform game, and also a sequel to one of the best platformers ever. I stand by my statement that this is a DS GOTY candidate. Pick it up people, I promise you won’t be sorry. Read more

Cost: £20-£30 approx. Availability: In most games stores and online. About I love to play games and when I was growing up I had a snes (Super Nintendo Entertainment System), the d.s. has brought this game back to life from the snes version quite brilliantly. There is not many major differences in graphics, colour scheme, characters or general storyline (someone gets captured and you have to save them in nearly all Mario games) but this game really revives the classic...
