Transformers: Autobots

Auracore MediaWorks
25 September 2007
  • Summary: Transformers on the DS doesn't offer much more then meets the eye.
  • Pros: Sandbox-style gameplay removes the heavy linearity usually present in movie titles; good voicework; loads of vehicles to transform to and from; Allspark Wars is an interesting concept.
  • Cons: Clumsy controls; side-missions have no point or consequence; missions are often frustrating and long; fuzzy graphics; paying twice the price for two storylines is a little much; mission diversity feels a little lacking.

Expert Review

Kikizo
10 September 2007
  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: The good presentation is a gimmie and the inclusion of the original Optimus Prime makes persons such as myself a very happy chappie. But it's just a really, really bad game. Insufferable tripe and well worth your hard-earned ignorance.

Transformers: Autobots Review

GameSpot
4 September 2007
  • Excerpt: Transformers: Autobots and Transformers: Decepticons are two sides of the same coin. Both games tell the same general story, they both share the same environments, and they both let you run amok as a robot that can transform into various vehicles. The main thing distinguishing the two versions is that you fight as a heroic Autobot in one and an evil Decepticon in the other.
  • Pros: It's a "giant robots" rendition of Grand Theft Auto, collecting new transformations for your own bot is sweet, voice acting is generally top-notch, and there's loads of it, solid 3D visuals
  • Cons: Missions are repetitive and derivative, the brainless camera and targeting cursor cause too many deaths, it's a short game even if you consider optional challenges

Transformers: Autobots

The Gamers Temple
30 August 2007
  • Excerpt: Transformers: Autobots casts you in the role of a newbie Transformer sent to Earth to aid the Autobots quest to find the Allspark before the Decepticons can get their robotic hands on it. If none of that makes any sense to you, then neither will much of the game as it pretty much assumes you are a Transformers fan. Not that you need to know much about the story to play the game - after all, do you really need to understand the motivation behind giant robot battles?

Transformers: Autobots

Thunderbolt Games
17 July 2007
  • Excerpt: Transformers: The Movie is a seriously kick-arse film about a hyperactive kid helping out some colossal Japanese robots to cause one billion dollars worth of damage to the city, and in doing so, he also manages to score a goddess of a hot chick. Transformers: Autobots , one half of the official DS games of the movie, does away with all of that nonsense, and instead leaves us stuck in a Grand Theft Auto inspired sandbox… for better or for worse? We’ll soon find out.
