In The World Ends With You, Neku Sakuraba and his allies are forced to participate in a game that will determine their fate. The battle system uses many of the unique features of the Nintendo DS, including combat that takes place on both screens, and attacks performed by certain motions on the touchscreen or by shouting into the microphone. Elements of Japanese youth culture, such as fashion, food, and cell phones, are key aspects of the missions. Some area of Shibuya may be inaccessible on certain days or blocked by a wall that can only be removed by satisfying the request of a nearby Reaper, (like erasing Noise symbols or obtaining a certain article of clothing). The area can be scans with psych pins that reveals the thoughts of the non-player characters in the Realground and memes and help progress the plot. The scan also reveals random Noise symbols that drift about the area, or in some cases, float around a specific character. The player initiates a battle by touching Noise symbols (each symbol constitutes one round of battle). Altering the difficulty of the Noise and the amount of health for Neku and his partner also alter the benefits conferred. Most missions require completion within a certain time. This timer is not correlated to the passage of time for the player. After completing the game, the player can return to any day in the story and play those events again, keeping the characters’ current statistics and inventory.

It’s hot out today. The sun is baking the pavement, turning the downtown asphalt into a stove. That doesn’t deter the people, however. The Shibuya shopping district is never slowed down by weather. Hundreds of sightseers are lounging in their chairs, wolfing down their fast food as they plan their next stop. Children and parents wander up and down the streets, gazing longingly into the store windows they pass. Others are meandering through the crowd, lost in whatever... Read more
For a company generally afflicted with an incurable case of sequels and remakes, Square-Enix took every risk possible when unleashing The World Ends With You (WEWY) on the gaming populace last year. Unrecognizable by any established Japanese RPG standards, WEWY is an amazing mix of new ideas and brilliant execution that adds up to one of the best DS experiences in the record-breaking handheld's lifetime. It's already halfway through the review and you probably only have the tiniest inkling of what the game is like... but is it fun? It’s incredibly hard to put down. Combat, for example, sounds insanely complex , but it's done so quickly and so smoothly that you’re ready to try it again, win or lose. The World Ends With You has a number of features that look good, play well, and encourage you to steer Neku into every nook and cranny of Shibuya. Neku’s journey is... Read more
It’s hard not to get attached to a lot of the characters with the humorous and well-written dialogue. The soundtrack is also outstanding and quite large for a DS game. There are tons of collectibles to keep you playing, and even a mini-game to play against friends when you’re not mingling or pursuing each other’s in-game shops. If you’ve been craving something different and unexpected, do not pass this offering up. This world was made especially for you. Read more
Your review definitely makes it sound worth a purchase, Horatio. I see a save function on the menu in one of the screenshots. Can I assume that this is an honest to goodness save anywhere game? I’ve sort of gotten spoiled playing through the latest Ace Attorney adventure recently, enough that it’d be irritating to go back to save points when I’m playing on the run. Read more
This is one of the best entertaining games for the Nintendo DS. The game involves a great interactivity with the Dual Screens almost like multitasking. With great graphics the gameplay is awesome. You can customize your characters attire , and enhance their abilities. I recommend this games for those adventure RPG gaming fans and those who are trying to experiment a new musical RPG. Read more

If you are looking for a great adventure game you have found it. This game is so much fun. The story is so great. You wake up on the street in Shibuya and a girl comes up to you and makes a pact with you. You soon figure out you are play the reapers game. I won't tell you too much or it will ruin the game. But there are a ton of secrets you learn and meaningful morals. The way of fighting is very interesting. You play as two characters one on top and one on the bottom... Read more
