The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road

The Wizard of Oz:Beyond the Yellow Brick Road is a game developed by Media.Vision and published by XSEED/D3Publisher for the NDS game console. It takes gamers through the well-known adventure of Dorothy and her dog, Toto, in a classic RPG game. In this game Dorothy has to find her way home by following the Yellow Brick Road after her home is uprooted in a tornado and ends up in the Magical Land of Oz. The game features Dorothy’s adventures along with other characters like the Scarecrow, Lion and Tin Man as they embark on a voyage filled with many obstacles. At the end of the Yellow Brick Road, the group learns from a mysterious wizard that the magical land has been taken over by four evil witches that are running amuck. Dorothy and her friends are tasked with defeating the witches with a return trip to Kansas as the reward. The game features 3-dimensional gameplay with an original soundtrack. Utilizing the touch screen capabilities of the DS, all actions are controlled by the stylus. The game also features turn-based battles from a first-person viewpoint, which can be automated with computer suggested moves for one-touch implementation or performed manually for the experienced RPG player in addition to hidden boss fights.

Features

The game features a battle system where Dorothy can make contact with monsters that wander about in game. The battle is a turn-based system in which the player and enemies take turns attacking and defending. While all command inputs are done with the stylus, the battle system is semi-automated and will display commands that best fit the situation before the player input their own. All commands can be changed before confirming them. The game also features a set of “ratio” value that is assigned to Dorothy and her friends. The value can only add up to 4 per round. Gamers are put to task to find the most effective RATIO make-up in a given battle situation. Other features on the game includes 3 Father Dragons in the Land of Magic that teaches Dorothy and her party a new skill each time she (they) train (battle) with Father Dragon; four elemental spirits that live throughout the Land of Magic where Dorothy and her party can borrow powers from and go to places they could not before; the Crystal Ball (track ball) located at the center of the Touch Screen that gamers can spin with the stylus and move Dorothy about (according to the speed the ball is spinning (ie., Slow spin is to walk, very fast is to dash).
