Decent Game, but really only for Die Hard Trek Fans
19 December 2007
Summary: I am fan of star trek and decided to pick up this game when I saw it at Gamestop for only 9.99 New. The gameplay mostly resembles Star Trek: Starfleet Command line of games that came out for the PC a couple of years back. The graphics are ok; the opening sequence (with Shatner's voice over) is quite nice, but the in-game graphics leave much to be desired as most of the ship models are generic and are not really detailed.
Summary: First, I'd like to comment on some of the other comments: This is a game of tactics, not strategy!! Although some may use the word "strategy" when describing your plan of attack in battle, that is inaccurate. Tactics are all about dogfighting and close quarters, strategy is about larger troop or fleet locations not the actual individual engagments. With that said i do like the game.
Summary: I was given this game by a friend who didnt like it..now Ive never watched star trek or know anything about it but hey...i wont turn down a free game. i found it to be very confusing. i barely played it so i odnt know how the gameplay is...but it's only for a trek fan not for an rpg/action gamer like myself.
Summary: The idea of skooting through space commanding my own ship appeals to the Megalomaniac in me so I gave this a go and found it quite interesting but ultimately it falls short of being a worth while buy. Tactical Assaults main problem is it's hardness, even on the early missions you can only hope to scrap through by the skin of your teeth, later missions are just hair rippingly impossible, an earlier reviewer complained that enemy ships only fire at you, even if there are...
Excerpt: Star trek games, much to the dismay of many fans have been typically poor, half hearted attempts. this is the first effort on DS and out-classes most other trek games, but that is not hard to do. However the game is pretty decent and fun to play. First things first, appearance. The game opens with an impressive 3D cut scene whch shows the star ship enterprise (of the captain Kirk days) whizzing though space. then the title pops up and your ready to rumble.
Pros: decent variety of ships, good gameplay and graphics
Conclusion: I am not a huge fan of star trek but i do enjoy si-fi so i checked this out. Needless to say it didn't do allot for me. I found that the controls were a little poorly thought out and the hud was... Well lets not go there. It is almost like the designers couldn't decide wether to have a touch screen controlled game or a button controlled game so went for the frankenstein hybrid i saw before me.
