Sonic Classic Collection
21 March 2010
Conclusion: Fun, challenging and frustrating in just the right measures, the collection highlights the respect Sonic holds as an old-school entity, even though the years that followed spelt disaster and led to his dethroning as a modern icon. The games here do have their flaws – for example, there’s no charge spin in the first game, spikes pop out just when you’ve picked up a reasonable speed and the projectiles are even more irritating than before as you struggle to make them out...
Conclusion: Sonic Classic Collection is a good, but flawed compilation for the Nintendo DS that just screams “small budget, short development cycle!” It is what it is: four great Sonic games accurately ported to a half-assed compilation.
Conclusion: The Short Version: Sonic, Tails and most importantly, Knuckles are on fine form once again to tempt fans who own previous compilations. If you can find this at a decent price it’s a nice slice of gaming history for yourself or any young family members that’ll put up with your constant ‘good old days' moaning.
Pros: Just the great Sonic games, Knuckles compatibility is excellent, A fine port to the DS
Cons: No frills extras, Tough at times, Worth buying again just for Knuckles?
Excerpt: This new collection of Sonic's finest adventures is a timely reminder of what could be possible in Sonic The Hedgehog 4. Having been deluged with some distinctly average efforts over the last few years, there's no doubt that Sega needs to take inspiration from these four classic Mega Drive games to make its mascot credible once more.
