NDS Review - 'SimCity DS'

WorthPlaying

  • Summary: True to the SimCity series, players will be able to create and control their city in the palm of their hands ... and much more. Maximizing the stylus and built-in microphone controls of the Nintendo DS, SimCity DS brings to the franchise like never before the feeling of personal involvement with...

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: There's a lot of game crammed into this tiny package but unfortunately - for all but the most ardent SimCity mayors - it has too many moments of frustration. These can be muddled through but is it worth the journey, knowing that there is likely to be another roadblock up ahead?

  • Summary: If you don't think city planning sounds like a good time, you probably haven't played the Sim City series, the simulation devoted not to destruction, but construction. Though it lacks guns and swords, it has never lacked for innovation, playability, or fans.
  • Pros: It captures the essence of the original, You might actually learn something, The music takes just the right tone, New data screens make managing a city easier than before
  • Cons: Demolition has never been less fun, You can't fire your advisor, Extreme lack of detail in the visuals, Needs more than one save slot

SimCity DS

  • Excerpt: First Impressions My reaction is This game needs very little introduction; it’s only one of the most recognizable names in gaming from the past two decades. Widely heralded as the standard of city-building sims to which all others must be compared, Sim City holds a special place in my heart.

  • Excerpt: You got the whole world, in your hand! Some games in this world appear to have been around for ever. Tetris, Pirates!, Prince of Persia to name but a few. Of all of these long lived games, one springs to mind as the most prolifically ported and repackaged game that I can think of, SimCity.
  • Pros: Good presentation, addictive gameplay
  • Cons: Not as good as other version, stylus can be a little inaccurate

  • Conclusion: Not without its flaws, but it uses the DS well to make an attractive game to those interested in the genre. Power fantasies assuaged.
  • Pros: Addictive, Good use of touch and dual screens, Good for newcomers and veterans, Never ends, Challenging
  • Cons: Touch screen isn't always very precise, Graphics are dull, Minigames are pointless

SimCity DS

Game-Focus
2 March 2014
