Conclusion: Shantae: Risky's Revenge is a bit of a pricey download at 1200 Nintendo Points, but it'll likely register as one of your more memorable gaming experiences this year. A vote against Shantae is a vote against fun--and you're not anti-fun, right? Disclosure: A review copy was provided by the publisher. For more information, please see our Ethics Policy .
Summary: Nobody played the original Shantae . I didn't and neither did you. It was a Game Boy Color game released a year after the GBA hit retail. It had such a limited run that loose copies currently fetch well over $100 . The only reason we've wanted to see a sequel is because we've been totally shamed by a few media outlets, the ones that actually bothered to review the original, into believing we missed out on the greatest gem in the GBC library.
Excerpt: Shantae: Risky’s Revenge is a complete surprise. Developer, WayForward, unsuccessfully searched years for a publisher that would be willing to invest in the game; a fact that may be an indictment of the current state of the industry. But, despite the financing issues, the independent developer found a way forward (oh yes, that happened) with Nintendo DSiWare, a service that has struggled to build a compelling library.
