Ridge Racer DS is just okay, not great

Ber Himwich "Ber", Amazon
20 May 2006
  • Summary: Well, I bought this game on sale at a GameStop and it came out to be a bit of a dissapointment. It just doesn't hold much water as a racing title. The handling is very loosey-goosey, which is fine in a way because it's an arcade racer, but this goes too far.

I'd rather be playing Ridge Racer R4

  • Summary: I had high hopes for this game, and had fun for the first 6 races. Then it let me down, all the control options suck, and you can't see ahead on the track to anticipate turns at all.

julwhite, Ciao
29 July 2009
  • Excerpt: This review is for the Nintendo DS game, Ridge Racer, developed by Nintendo and published by Namco. Ridge Racer is a fast paced driving game, based on a port from the N64 version of the game. There are a total of thirty-two cars to drive and twenty different tracks.
  • Pros: Excellent multi player function, challenging
  • Cons: Collision detection poor in places, feels quite dated now

Ridge Racer DS

Richy_P, Ciao
23 February 2006
  • Excerpt: Ridge Racer DS was one of the first racers on the DS. It comprises the same elements as your bog standard racer, some may not enjoy this as they can't use weapons or nitrous etc. But it is still a good game; you race very quickly with a very good frame rate, and the AI can sometimes be pretty hard...
  • Pros: Fast, Addictive, Good use of touch screen
  • Cons: Poor Graphics, Lack of unlockables, Bad difficulty settings

Dissapointing

  • Summary: This may have been a good game originally, when it was called ridge racer 64 but now it feels dated and the physics are simply ridiculous (quite fun to begin with but the novelty of the crazy drift wears off when the courses get more difficult).

  • Excerpt: Ridge racer is good, it is such an easy game to play even as a beginner. The race has a drift path, so you just have to control the drift and the game will carry it around. The graphics are good and the scenery is quite real just doing a slow lap will enable you to be able to see the scenery with...
  • Pros: drift path
  • Cons: graphics for surrounding have small limit

Disappointing

Foxtrick "foxtrick", Amazon
11 August 2005
  • Summary: I found this game made almost no use of the stylus or features of the DS. Unlock cars that have better/worser attributes and don't look that appealing. Gameplay I think is pretty repetitive, no real attempt at improving or making the game exciting.

Ridge Racer DS...Rip off.

Luize, Ciao
24 June 2005
  • Excerpt: This review refers to the American version of Ridge Racer DS ***Packaging*** Well it is the same as any other Nintendo DS game. The box is sturdy with the protective cover over the inlay cover. The actual detail on the cover is lacking. It does not have the standard multiplayer compatibility icon.
  • Pros: Simple game play, Good instructions, Child friendly
  • Cons: Bad Graphics, Little development, Bad handling, Overpriced
