Resident Evil: Deadly Silence (DS) - Review

VGChartz
12 March 2009
  • Excerpt: I'm going to be brutally honest here: when I first started gaming on the DS, I wasn't too impressed with the technical achievements of most of the games. Granted, something really amazing looking would come along once in a while, but few games really pushed the hardware back then. When I first heard that they were porting Resident Evil to Nintendo’s cash-printing machine, I immediately wondered what would be changed to make it run as a handheld game.

  • Excerpt: For those wondering and haven't yet seen the screen shots - yes, this is a remake of the PS1 original. So the "moody" backgrounds are actually pretty bright. The enemies aren't so life-like as they seemed to be a decade ago. The characters still control like a tank. And the voice acting is still horrible (but honestly, that's part of what makes the game great).

Resident Evil: Deadly Silence

Nintendo World Report
26 February 2006
  • Summary: The master of unlocking has returned, with a few new tricks up her sleeve.
  • Pros: Looks great, Rebirth mode gives original some new life, Touch screen features and puzzles work like a dream
  • Cons: Cheesiest voice acting ever, Item management can get annoying at times, Resident Evil control style still doesn't work well

Resident Evil: Deadly Silence

Project COE
7 February 2006
  • Conclusion: The original Resident Evil truly seems to just live on and on. Just when you think it’s the last one, Capcom decides to re-release it yet again. Deadly Silence is still a great title for any DS library and a must-have for hardcore RE fans. Even if you still have neglected to play any of the many releases of the game, your chance comes yet again.

Official Nintendo Magazine
9 October 2007
  • Excerpt: The first signs aren't promising. Laughing 'til we hurt at the hideous voice acting, we almost forgot we were playing a version of one of the most important games of the last ten years. Deadly Silence is a direct port of the original PlayStation Resident Evil, warts, decaying flesh and all. Did it really sound that bad first time around?

Review: Resident Evil: Deadly Silence

N-Europe
15 April 2006
  • Conclusion: Back in 1996, Resident Evil was a groundbreaking game. Now, it pales to most other survival horrors, especially RE4.
  • Pros: The awesome dialogue, Some great use of the DS hardware, Lots of unlockables
  • Cons: Loss of atmosphere, Some bad use of the DS hardware, Screen is far too small for this game
