Resident Evil: Deadly Silence (DS) - Review

VGChartz
12 March 2009
  • Excerpt: I'm going to be brutally honest here: when I first started gaming on the DS, I wasn't too impressed with the technical achievements of most of the games. Granted, something really amazing looking would come along once in a while, but few games really pushed the hardware back then. When I first heard that they were porting Resident Evil to Nintendo’s cash-printing machine, I immediately wondered what would be changed to make it run as a handheld game.

Resident Evil: Deadly Silence

Thunderbolt Games
1 January 2008
  • Excerpt: Resident Evil proved highly influential in the early PlayStation era thanks to its atmospheric pre-rendered graphics and spooky scares. Unfortunately, it was also influential by popularizing the trend of ridiculous, outlandish puzzles that require the most obscure objects to be solved. Ten years and many ports later, the original is back once again with Resident Evil: Deadly Silence .

Resident Evil: Deadly Silence Review

VideoGamer.com
13 June 2007
  • Excerpt: The original Resident Evil is a game that, much like its trademark zombies, won't stay dead, and after a failed attempt to bring it to the portable market with the aborted Game Boy Color version, Deadly Silence marks the series' first appearance on a handheld. As well as providing fans with a reasonably faithful port of the PlayStation version, the game includes several additions and tweaks to the gameplay that take advantage of the unique functionality of the DS.

Same gore and quirks as original -- adults only.

Common Sense Media
20 May 2007
  • Summary: Parents need to know that this is a remake of a survival horror classic game, and that it brings all the gore of the original to the DS. Players shoot, stab, incinerate, decapitate, and otherwise destroy scores of monsters. The monsters slash, vomit on, and devour humans. Players will see graphic gore, including partially eaten bodies and wounds that ooze blood. Some knifing action takes place from a first-person perspective.

  • Excerpt: For those wondering and haven't yet seen the screen shots - yes, this is a remake of the PS1 original. So the "moody" backgrounds are actually pretty bright. The enemies aren't so life-like as they seemed to be a decade ago. The characters still control like a tank. And the voice acting is still horrible (but honestly, that's part of what makes the game great).
