Professor Layton and the Spectre’s Call
1 September 2012
Conclusion: The time will come when the Layton formula wears out. As of now it is getting a bit thin in places but holds up overall remarkably well, with a quality and variety in the puzzles that suggests a fair amount of life remains in the franchise.
Excerpt: The Professor Layton series isn exactly full of surprises at this point. The developers work with a familiar set of pieces and make them come to life beautifully. Youe got your titular professor, his young assistant Luke, and a bunch of zany supporting characters.
Pros: Scores of new puzzles, Variety of cool mini-games, Engrossing story
Cons: Much the same as previous games, Dialogue scenes can run a bit long, Interface is clunky in parts

Professor Layton and the Spectre's Call Review (DS)
5 December 2011
Excerpt: Layton’s latest adventure finally makes it to Europe with a slight title alteration and some content missing.
Pros: Charming art style., Fantastic logic puzzles., Plenty of brain teasers and mini games which are entertaining enough.
Cons: Borrows a lot from previous games in the series., Text dialogue is very cheesy and repetitive., Hardware limitations starting to cause difficulties., Over reliance on trickery to confound., Missing a huge amount of content.
Conclusion: The newest Professor Layton game is just as good as the three predecessors. It is engaging, mischievous...and lacking in surprises. It may sound like a criticism, but this lack of development actually is not a major problem. The professor was shaped fine in the first game.
Pros: Good puzzles, plenty of content, great design, atmospheric, wonderful characters.
Cons: Graphics blurry on some puzzles, lack of London Life stings.
Excerpt: Den kända pussellösande arkeologen är tillbaka! Professor Layton and the Spectre's Call tar dig bokstavligen till historiens början.
Fem over to. Meget mystisk, det var svært ulikt den gode professoren å være sent ute.
Pros: Spennende historie, artige karakterer, en del gode gåter
Cons: For mange svake gåter, standardformelen begynner å bli sliten og oppbrukt
