Nothing new, but still a fun dungeon crawler for fans.

Common Sense Media

  • Summary: Parents need to know that this game is the third game in the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series, where players explore dungeons and battle other Pokemon using non-graphic attacks and special moves. A knowledge of Pokemon, their special moves, strengths and weaknesses, is recommended and will make combat easier.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky Review

G4
28 October 2009
  • Summary: Pokémon fever has no signs of going into remission, though it would seem Nintendo isn't taking any chances, churning out spin-offs and updates at a dizzying clip. For its fourth appearance on Nintendo DS, the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series goes "green" by recycling all content found in both Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Time. Will dedicated dungeon-delvers be disappointed that Explorers of Sky is merely an enhanced version of 2008's twin titles?
  • Pros: Five new side stories with different playable Pokémon, Eight new dungeons, including a 99-floor Destiny Tower, 492 Pokémon to recruit or make fun of
  • Cons: Unexciting items, Exact same storyline as in 2008's versions, Repetitive combat

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky

Digital Chumps
26 October 2009
  • Conclusion: *Read summary of Explorers of Darkness* Addition: If you're looking for a game that separates itself from the games it supposedly enhances, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky is not that game. Players who have never played the series before may find this game enjoyable but other than that, only the most hardcore Pokémon fans (who enjoy even the least critically acclaimed games from the franchise) will enjoy playing this title after playing through any of the...

NDS Review - 'Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky'

WorthPlaying
4 October 2009
  • Summary: Explorers of Sky is an action-packed adventure where players journey as actual Pokémon through a fantastic land untouched by humans. Before the game starts, players take a test to help them figure out which of the, over a dozen, Pokémon best represents their personalities.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky Review

AusGamers
8 January 2010
  • Conclusion: A more apt title might have been 'My First Roguelike'. This obscure RPG sub-genre is an acquired taste, and one seldom seen on today's consoles. Roguelikes let the player explore randomly-generated dungeons, with haphazardly placed rooms, tunnels, baddies, and loot. Examples include NetHack, Angband, and Ancient Domains of Mystery. Chunsoft dominates this genre on DS, having already given us Shiren the Wanderer and the four previous Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games.
  • Pros: Classic 'Roguelike' dungeon-crawling action, Clear graphics, simple interface, Addictive, accessible
  • Cons: Too easy, Too simplistic, Cut scenes are way too long
