Neves DS Review

Console Obsession

  • Excerpt: Puzzle games are ideally suited to portable play on the DS, and this latest example has to impress in a crowded market. The alert amongst you may have spotted that the unusual name is actually just “SEVEN” reversed. Maybe if they had called it Tangram Training, it would have flown off the shelves… The aim of the game is based around the ancient Chinese puzzle Qi Qiao Ban (Seven Boards of Cunning), where seven pieces or “tans” are arranged into shapes.

  • Excerpt: The best puzzle games are often the simplest. Explaining the rules of Tetris doesn't take long yet some puzzlers are so difficult to understand without studying a long list of instructions. With Neves there are only three things to learn (how to rotate, flip and move shapes) and after a brief tutorial you'll be ready to play in a matter of minutes.

Neves Review (DS)

  • Excerpt: A different kind of challenge Neves is one of those games that it is very easy to dismiss at first glance. In fact one of the other reviewers may well have been writing this had I not decided to give it just one go! Neves is based on an old type of puzzle called a tangram. Basically you have seven (neves, seven backwards…get it!?!) shapes that you must put together to produce a specific image.
  • Pros: 500 + puzzles., Pick up and play., Train friendly
  • Cons: Graphics and music are a bit on the poor side., Not for everyone.
