Petty criticisms aside, Little King’s Story is a great game; it’s fresh, original, and occasionally daring. But considering the history of fresh, original, occasionally daring third-party games on the Wii, it’s likely Little King’s Story will sell a grand total of twelve copies in the western market. It would be heartbreaking to see this happen, as the game really is deserving of your attention. Read more

    • Deep, challenging adventure with lots of replay value; beautiful art style; surprisingly mature sense of humour.
    • Lots of backtracking and grinding; sound effects annoying.

Ostensibly an effort to capitalize on the now-in-vogue "casual" games demand, Nintendo and Big Fish (the biggest names in their respective fields) have joined forces to bring Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir to the Nintendo DS. MillionHeir places the player in the role of a detective from the Mystery Case Files agency. The task at hand is to discover what happened to deceased millionaire Phil T. Rich, and to whom his vast fortune should be bestowed. Read more

A more taxing challenge that required real thought and detective work would have been preferable, but MillionHeir does what it sets out to do very well. Read more

Last February, Nintendo channeled our inner detective with , a wonderful whodunit mystery game featuring numerous and delightful brain teasers. A sequel is on the way, but in the meantime, we have Big Fish Games' , a fun DS game that tests your visual acuity. Instead of solving SAT like puzzles, you use various instruments to locate important clues. Read more

    • Imaginative scenery brimming with detail, ambient music that perfectly fits the mood, lots of gadgets that make great use of the DS' abilities.
    • Some puzzles are too easy, you don't perform much detective work, forgettable characters.

A fine level of polish was heaped on MillionHeir, yet the framework of the adventure falls short of providing a cohesive gameplay experience. The object hunting puzzles are excellent, but they don't always feel connected to the story or the characters. Playing the game feels very little like detective work and very much like playing a long string of puzzles. Read more

Overall, MillionHeir isn't a bad game but it lacks the interest of a Phoenix Wright, the challenge of a Professor Layton and the depth of a classic PC adventure game. It's too bad because MillionHeir has a lot of things going for it: it's part of a popular genre, it's easy to pick up and play, it looks and sounds pretty good. It's the lazy, C-student quality of the narrative and game mechanics that's dragging it down. Yeah, I know; it's a casual game. Read more

Review by Mike Williams Now I loathe the dentist as much as the next guy. But that sadistic drill sergeant kept my prepubescent self in Highlights magazines. I could not know it at the time but my mouth full of cavities would give me enough practice solving inane picture puzzles that one day in 2008 I would sit down and dominate Mystery Case Files: Million Heir. I have played many of the Mystery Case Files games on the PC and have become a fan of them. Being able to rent this one for the DS was a bonus, as I would have bought it straight away, but thank god I didn't. First of all this game IS good, the only drawback it has is the fact it's a little repetative and too short. Quite a shame really as the amount of things they could have done so much more using the DS' ability. Read more
