Features

Emphasis in Mario Party DS is placed on the game’s multiplayer aspect. A new element to the series is the use of the Download Play functionality of the Nintendo DS to allow four people to play wirelessly using only one game card. The game is played by using a "dice block" numbered 1-10 and moving the player accordingly. There are many things such as "mole shops" and "?" spaces that can help or hinder game progress. The boards are Wiggler’s Garden, Toadettte’s Music Room, DK’s Jungle, Kamek’s Library, and Bowser’s Pinball Machine. There are a total of 74 mini-games to play in Mario Party DS where some use the different input methods like the buttons, the stylus, and 4 use the microphone. It has several mode : Story Mode - the player plays a mini-game after every character has made their turn on the board; Puzzle Mode : the player plays puzzle games from the Mario Party series; Frenzy Mode : the player has to connect four or more triangles of the same color to destroy them and Focus Mode : the player must twist the triangles to form 50 shapes.

In July 2007, Mario Party 8 for Wii was withdrawn from United Kingdom game stores shortly after its release date. This was due to a non-playable character using the word "spastic." Complaints were raised from consumers as the term is considered offensive and politically incorrect or inept in the United Kingdom. Read more

A typical Mario game. If you love Mario and his friends and like multiplayer then this one is certainly something for you. Otherwise it certainly won't be able to keep your interest. Read more

One of the best Mario Party games. Not quite as good as 5 or 8, but the DS is perfectly suited to the series. Read more

When it comes down to it, Nintendo's Mario is a lot like Disney's Mickey Mouse. Much more than a videogame character, the ubiquitous plumber is a symbol that is recognized around the world, from dive bars to the sometimes hallowed halls of government. Like Mickey, he's cute, beloved and heroic, and most of all, he's an energetic character full of alacrity. Just when you think he's down and defeated -- boom, deus ex machina -- he's got another gear, courtesy of you, the... Read more

Though the graphics and music are appropriate and whimsically imagined, every character says “ I am a superstar! ” far too often. Just because you say you’re a superstar, doesn’t mean you are or that you’re not an attention whore that will only shut your hole for shiny objects . Without any guilt, I must also award this game for the worst title for a mini-game ever: “Cucumberjacks”. Yep. You . Jack . Cucumbers . I’ll let your imagination wrap itself... Read more

Generations of games from the Mario Party franchise have now arrived in our hands of the Nintendo DS. The series have shifted off the Nintendo platforms and have jumped onto our Nintendo handhelds. This is a very innovative idea, as it collaborates the utility of the touch screen of the Nintendo DS, to make mini-games far more entertaining. Story Mario Party is generally about 8 Mario characters trying to escape a Bowser's wrath, after he has forcefully shrunken them... Read more

This game is a must-have for anyone who owns a DS, especially if you are a fan of the Mario Party series. Another great aspect of the game is you can do a DS download play with 3 friends and all play off one cartridge. If you don't have friends to play with, there's always story mode or you can just practice & get better at the mini-games. Read more

Finally, what most people want... to be able to take the party anymore they'd like, which brings me to review Mario Party DS! It's great how there's now minigames using the DS features, such as the touch screen and microphone. It contains a lot of fun things to do, such as puzzle games. Although, story mode a bit hard to accomplish. If you do not win, you'll be forced to start over and play the board again. Boss battles make the game a tad more interesting. The reason... Read more
