Pros & Cons

  • hilarious plot and characters, inventive battle design, stand out moments, genuinely funny script, yet never dull
  • feels gimmicky at points, superficial role playing, rpg light, gratuitous microphone use, too easy and straightforward

Features

In Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, players are in control of two separate storylines. One features Bowser and his efforts to stop an arch-villain from taking over his castle. The other features the microbe-sized Mario & Luigi who must muscle their way through challenges (inside Bowser) to find their way out. Gamers take action to control Bowser from the inside – but without his knowledge. Players can switch between storylines at will. What happens inside Bowser affects what he’s doing on the outside. This game requires gamers to solve puzzles (as Mario & Luigi) and challenges behind the scenes to help Bowser overcome various obstacles and advance the plot. In some battles, Bowser grows so large that players must turn their Nintendo DS or Nintendo Dsi™ system sideways, blow into the microphone or tap on the touch screen with the stylus to keep up with the action. The game features the same hilarious dialogue that has been the hallmark of the Mario & Luigi series.

The Mario & Luigi series has had three installments, but the first two didn't come near the level of notoriety and hype that this newest game has. Well Bowser's Inside Story is here, and it's good. But is it that good?Fawful, the villain from the previous story, is back, and this time he has played games with Bowser. He tricks the Koopa king into eating a mushroom that makes him suck in Mario, Luigi and Peach, trapping them inside his body, and while Bowser ventures in... Read more

On top of all this superb and varied gameplay, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story boasts a colorful and crisp art style, impressive character animation, and some whimsical audio design that's perfectly in keeping with other aspects of the game. It's a fun, accessible role-playing game for the DS that anyone with even a passing interest in the subject matter shouldn't miss. Read more

Right about now I’d be opening with the “if you don’t know Mario you don’t know gaming” jargon. Not today. Today, Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story is in the spotlight, and whether you’re familiar with Mario and his role-playing exploits or not, this is one adventure that comes highly recommended. Nintendo’s DS has been the home of Mario and Luigi’s RPG ventures in the past, and although not a direct sequel, Bowser’s Inside Story remains faithful... Read more

In truth, this bizarre adventure is tailor made for Nintendo fanboys. It's packed with in-jokes and Nintendo references that'll soar above the Brain Training crowd's head like a Star Powered aeroplane. Its greatest achievement is its pacing: it never loses focus over the course of its 20 hours. It constantly surprises with clever mini-games and stand-out, memorable moments, most of which, it must be said, involve Bowser. But it feels more like a cleverly strung together... Read more

A unique story, immersive and varied gameplay, beautiful characters with crazy dialogues, music, graphics and sound that are perfect up to the smallest details, and enough originality to fill ten other games with: those that don't feel like getting this better give their DS handheld to someone else. Mario and Luigi : Bowser's Inside Story is a great game with wonderful cartoony graphics,  cool sound effects, and some good controls too. There are some cool special moves to unlock and even a secret one called the magic window. The button-press sequences tie coordination into the gameplay. It's the normal story, Princess Peach has been captured, and Mario and Luigi must save her, but the villain isn't Bowser this time, it's a mysterious villain named Fawful. Bowser... Read more

Everyone knows who Mario is and most are familiar with his brother Luigi and his biggest enemy Bowser. Generally you can bet that a Mario game is going to be great, sometime games like Mario Party or Mario and sonic at the Olympic games are not to everyones liking, but the single player Mario games are some of the best around. An example of this would be Mario Galaxy which was voted by many to be the best game of last year. Here however is a Mario game for the Nintendo... Read more
