Excerpt: It’s like clockwork. Every new Nintendo system inevitably sees another iteration in the Mario Kart franchise, and each time, we eat it up. The venerable series continues to be solid, colorful and most importantly, fun.
Pros: + 3D effect looks good, + Multiplayer is still the best, + Game sharing, + Tracks are fantastic
Cons: New features feel tacked on, Feels like going through the motions, Single player drags on
Excerpt: Mario Kart hangs over the precipice of chaos. With weapons that can change positioning in a heartbeat, racing in this enduring franchise often takes a backseat to the item-flinging festivities. It's a tenuous position, and each iteration has dealt with how to balance these two disparate components--the skill of driving and the randomness of items--in different ways.
Pros: Excellent track design, Competing against the AI or humans is always exciting, Rebalanced items shift the focus to driving, Hang gliding is a great addition
Cons: No mission mode, Questionable online decisions
Excerpt: During the holidays, I decided to pick a present for myself. My reasoning was this: who else would better know what I wanted besides me? The logic is impeccable, if not rather self serving. So I went to my local mega “big box” retail store and picked out a MarioKart DS bundle. The special bundle includes the MarioKart DS racing game and a “hot rod red” special edition Nintendo DS handheld game console.
Excerpt: The premise, as will all other Mario Kart games is the same. You are given 8 popular characters to choose from whether it’s the famous plumber himself, the damsel in distress Peach or Bowser. After you have chosen your characters, it’s time to put them on the track. Mario Kart DS has several circuits to choose from and three different CC’s which basically just difficulty.
Pros: Old formula still works quite well, Visuals and soundtrack are fantastic, Easy control scheme
Cons: Not much use of the touch screen, Some controls are unnecessary, Could be a little too easy for some
