The game involves having players to investigate their surroundings and gather hints by conversing with characters in the game. It features the massive world of Kisaragi City for players to explore, and allows them to use their stylus to conduct autopsies of Silent worms found throughout the game. Players will also have Psychic Powers that will enable them to save potential victims from Silent.

However all of these facets don't change the fact that Lux-Pain is nearly impossible to recommend. While it succeeds rather surprisingly on almost every technical level it's still a hard sell due to the translation. When dealing with a medium that is almost entirely focused on the words you're reading it's important that those words make sense. If you are as big a fan of "weird for the sake of being weird" as I am, Lux Pain might be worth a look. If you want a nice, normal text adventure on the DS, Hotel Dusk and Phoenix Wright are the way to go. Lux Pain is really only suitable for gamers who are flat-out tired of stuff that makes sense, plots that can be followed and games that can be honest-to-goodness enjoyed. In the end, the experience isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. The pacing, bad translation, and lack of interaction bring Lux-Pain down quite a few notches and pretty much make it one of those very niche titles that a select group of people rave about, but only rave about it when you actually stick through it.
