Knights in the Nightmare is a game developed by Sting and published by Atlus USA for the Nintendo DS game console. The game takes place in real time on an isometric grid and features two main characters, the wisp and Maria. The wisp is the player controlled character. The wisp is controlled on the touchscreen, moves around and is how the player gives orders to allied units. When the wisp comes into contact with a unit that can act, an item can be selected, and the attack must be aimed by moving around the wisp. Playera must guide the wisp to dodge the shots as well as order the allied units to attack. The game also features a timer, which is deducted when there is a charging attack and when the player's wisp takes damage. The game also features Permadeath, character’s vitality stat which decreases when they use skills and other special circumstances; and vitality can be replenished through leveling up, Transoul System, and other special circumstances. The game has a CERO:A/ESRB:T rating.

Features

Knights in the Nightmare is a game that features the player’s character, the wisp, and its adventure in an ancient castle known as Aventheim. Aventheim is witness to the slaughter of its citizens by denizens from the netherworld. The wisp is drawn toward the monster-infested castle and re-awakens the souls of the vanquished knights and leads them back towards the fallen stronghold to confront the forces of evil that took their lives. The game incorporates strategy RPG, real-time strategy, and shooter elements. It lets players control the Wisp with the stylus and activates the souls of deceased knights to aid the player in destroying foes on the map. Players are challenged to master the touch controls to avoid enemy fire of bullets in multiple directions. The game also features over 100 playable characters, where players must find and recruit the ghosts of seven different classes of knights from the kingdom. Players are required to learn of their pasts, hopes, dreams, and untimely deaths and sacrifice their souls to one another to balance their skills and create a party that will assists the wisp to victory. It is a game of a tale told from two perspectives, simultaneously examined through events both past and present. The player is required to complete the adventure in order to unlock the ability to play through the game with a narrative twist.
