IL-2: Sturmovik: Birds of Prey is a game developed by DiP Interactive and published by 505 Games/1C for the NDS game console. It is also available on the Xbox 360, PSP and PS3 game console. DiP Interactive’s Nintendo DS version of IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey utilizes the DS’ touch screen format by way of counter measure. Players will be able to take hand draw notes on the in game flight card into battle, to physically record key information such as enemy positions and bombing coordinates. DiP Interactive has made use of the lower screen for flight instruments with the top screen used for gameplay and have managed to cram over 25 planes across 42 missions into a single DS cart. The DS has been tested to its limits by producing maps that can comprise an area of up to 100 x 100 km, providing ample room for aerial maneuver.

Features

Russian developer and publisher 1C announced its entry into the console market with the unveiling of IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey, touted as the first console version of the heralded World War II flight simulation series that is known for its realistic flight modeling and attention to detail. Birds of Prey is said to differ from others because it is a flight simulator with a few arcade elements added to it while featuring variable realism settings, ranging from arcade flight mode to a hardcore realism mode that is comparable to the PC game. Birds of Prey uses the flight models that were developed for the PC game, but almost everything else was rewritten from scratch for the NDS. The game also features a new damage modeling system where damage to the plane will affect the aircraft's handling on the more realistic difficulty levels. Other features include instant mission mode along with about six campaigns, ranging from the Battle of Britain, Stalingrad, Sicily, the Ardennes, and the Fall of Berlin. These campaign modes will let gamers fly from the Allies' perspective in an array of historically realistic aircraft (Axis warplanes only available in multiplayer); extensive multiplayer support that lets gamers fly with other pilots cooperatively or competitively in dogfights; and the ability to jump to different planes in one’s wing in mid battle (or should the plane that one is on get shot down) in single player mode.
