Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure DS Review

Console Obsession
30 May 2010
  • Excerpt: When a game meshes two genres together, there’s always the possibility that one facet is going to outshine the other. It’s a difficult balancing act to craft a game where both elements complement each other perfectly, but it’s a feat that EA have pulled off admirably well with Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure. The titular Henry Hatsworth is an old adventurer and the English gentleman stereotype: he drinks tea, when you complete a level he exclaims “good show!

Expert Review

Game Informer
19 May 2009
  • Summary: Henry Hatsworth charms players with its colorful cast of well-to-do Brits, imaginative worlds, and its creative blend of platforming and puzzle gameplay. But much like a night in the company of Sloane Rangers, the gameplay's pompous charm dissolves into intolerable elitism. The good chap is traveling the globe in search of a magical golden wardrobe.

  • Excerpt: Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure was first announced last summer, in the wake of the successful puzzle/adventure title Professor Layton and the Curious Village. • Pros: The boss fights are tough, time-consuming, and backed by a great soundtrack.
  • Cons: There are fun twists to the gameplay throughout, but they can take too long to arrive, so the action occasionally gets repetitious.

Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure

Thunderbolt Games

  • Excerpt: Remember those old Reese’s Cups commercials – the ones where two people would bang into each other, one guy eating peanut butter, the other eating chocolate? The two flavors would get mashed together, and the unsuspecting pedestrians would rejoice over the exciting, new taste sensation they’d discovered. That’s my anecdote to describe Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure.

Gaming Evolution

  • Conclusion: Despite some uneven pacing (long levels) and common pitfalls (the cheap difficulty), Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure still stands among the greatest modern platformers. Throwing Bejeweled into the mix cements it as a peanut-butter cup of game design; two great tastes that taste great together. If you're a fan of classic platformers, don't pass it up.
