Fossil Fighters: Champions

About.com
16 June 2013
  • Conclusion: Fossil Fighters: Champions might feel too familiar for some Pokemon fans, and it's definitely not as deep or impressive as Nintendo's world-famous monster-collecting franchise. Nevertheless, when it's taken for what it is, Champions is a lot of fun, and is sure to please any gamer who has ever fantasized about having his or her own pet dinosaur. • Excerpt: The original Fossil Fighters did a fine job of addicting players to the task of unearthing prehistoric creatures to do battle in obvious but effective emulation of Pokémon . The game may not have set the sales charts afire, but that didn't stop Red Entertainment from crafting a sequel, which may become the final RPG Nintendo publishes for the DS in North America.

Pokemon-ish sequel makes dinosaur-hunting less repetitive.

Common Sense Media
11 May 2011
  • Summary: Parents need to know that Fossil Quest: Champions is the sequel to Fossil Fighters , a Pokemon-inspired role-playing game where players excavate and revive special dinosaurs called "vivosaurs" and then pit them against other vivosaurs in turn-based battles. Players can use the DS's WiFi connection to compete in matched battles or upload a team to see how it stacks up against other human players. They can also download exclusive vivosaurs and quests.

  • Excerpt: Fossil fighters is a lofty game that allows players to dig up fossils, clean them up, bring a dinosaur-like creature called a “Vivosaur” back to life and then battle with them. Not a bad idea for a game but the three-hours I spent trying to get through the beginning was; it should have been a lot shorter of an introduction to the game.

  • Conclusion: Overall the story itself is not really that deep for an adult gamer, but then again the game is marketed towards kids who love dinosaurs. It is also modeled almost exactly after Pokemon which makes me frown at Nintendo for this shameless de-make of a better game. Either way, the game is decent for a Nintendo published title. Yet it really is just a poorly covered rehash of Pokemon with less stuff to do.
