Nice Graphics, Unique Gameplay, but Just Not Fun

RWBurnham "Rob", Amazon

  • Summary: I was impressed by the art style of this game. It reminds me of "The Wind Waker" in terms of character design. I liked the way the landscape was curved, as if to show the curvature of the planet. Visually, this is a very nice game. Sadly, combat is just too weird for me. The Action Point system is unique, but annoying. Combat felt unfairly difficult more often than not. Everything felt like a struggle.

Identity Crisis

  • Summary: This game tries to appeal to old school FF fans but fails in leaving out some of the key features that retro players would expect from any game with the Final Fantasy name. Not recommended.

Shoot and a miss

C. Ruiz, Amazon

  • Summary: As much as I love the Final Fantasy series, Square has really dropped the ball on this one. The 4 Heroes of Light takes away most of the thinking in this game. While the visual look of the game is nice, the battle system is slow, and basic. You have no choice of targets for your spells, attacks, and even items. The game decides what the best target is for you and most of the time when healing, it choose the character that didn't even need it.

Profoundly dissapointing.

  • Summary: I don't consider this to be a Final Fantasy game. Things that you can normally do in a FF game just aren't there. Things like: being able to select a target, changing weapons in combat, running away, multi-classing, being able to carry more then fifteen items, being able to see in the dark without a torch, rows, selecting multiple targets with spells. I'm sure I could come up with more but why bother.

What a disappointment

Amazon Customer, Amazon
30 October 2010
  • Summary: Graphics: 4 out of 5 Story: 1 out of 5 Gameplay: 1 out of 5 Music: 4 out of 5 Overall: 2 out of 5. Surely you've heard the talk of this game being somewhat oldschool. It is, but not in a good way. 1. The characters are generic, trite, stereotypical RPG vanillas. 2. The plot is barely there, just enough to move the game along. A staple of oldschool RPGs, which I don't happen to miss. I like my RPGs to make characters and stories I care about.

déception

P. Eric, Amazon
28 January 2011
