Lightness and Darkness and Jobs, Oh My!

RPGamer
21 May 2007
  • Excerpt: Final Fantasy III missed out on the multiple ports its predecessors received. No PS1, GBA, or PSP iterations exist for this game, only its original 1990 Famicom rendition and the 2006 DS remake. This remake changed quite a few parts of the game in minor-to-moderate ways but strove to remain faithful to the original version, and it succeeded in accomplishing that aim.

  • Excerpt: Final Fantasy III has been missing in action for quite some time. Initially released in Japan in 1990 for the Famicom, this game took sixteen years to make it across the ocean.

Expert Review

  • Excerpt: For the non-hardcore gamer, the recent release of Final Fantasy III for the DS is a bit of a head-wobbler ("um, aren't they up to, like, number 12 now?"), but the original FFIII never actually had a North American release, so it's "new to you" ...sort of.

Final Fantasy III

Empire Online
20 August 2007
  • Summary: Now here’s a confusing one. Although Final Fantasy fanboys will have played FFIII on the Super NES in the mid-90s, that was actually the sixth instalment in Square’s evergreen series, and the third game never actually saw the light of day outside Japan. But now the developers have finally got around to creating an English-language 3D remix of their vintage escapade, it feels outdated and clumsy in a genre that’s evolved sharply since the game first appeared in 1990.
