Cartoon Network Racing (CNR) was Firebrand’s first product, and was released in 2006 on Nintendo DS, published by The Game Factory. The game features 24 characters from the zany world of Cartoon Network including Johnny Bravo, The Powerpuff Girls and Dexter’s Lab. With 16 varied tracks and innumerable power ups and tricks, CNR is a great karting experience for the Nintendo DS. The game also includes 3 full length cartoons and 2 unique mini games.
If you are in need of an extremely enjoyable racing game that you can play anywhere on your DS, I recommend that you pick up “Cartoon Network Racing.” Even if you aren’t a fan of Cartoon Network in particular, you should still get the same sense of enjoyment out of this game as any cartoon fanatic would. There’s no such thing as a kid who doesn’t watch or at least know of Cartoon Network. Cartoon Network has given host to a wide variety of cartoons – Cow & Chicken, Dexter’s Laboratory, Power Puff Girls, Ed, Edd ‘n Eddy, etc. Cartoon Network Racing uses a variety of these franchises, combining them with the best genre of games to put a franchise into – kart racing. If you stick with Cartoon Network Racing long enough and push past the frustrations, the fun factor does eventually increase. There are only 16 courses here, but there are plenty of unlockable extra speed settings and hidden characters. The game even capitalizes on its television affiliation by including three full cartoon episodes, each of which is presented with applaudable clarity – much better than what we saw from the Game Boy Advance Video format a few years ago.... As we mentioned earlier, every racer or kart title is likely to be compared to the mighty Mario Kart and while this is one of the better ones, it's not without its problems. For starters some of the levels are very difficult especially as you progress through the game, meaning you'll probably play some levels far more than you want to.
