Different context, but the same war experience

NeoJ, MobyGames

  • Conclusion: A new Call of Duty in different context, with a different enemy and different weapons but still with the same structure as the previous games of the series. It could have been one of the best FPS in a long time, but the feeling is that it's the same game when you've played some hours. Anyway, it's one of the best games, a realistic war experience that should be played if you love that kind of games.
  • Pros: When I played Call of Duty for the first time, I felt like I was in the Second World War. Call of Duty 2 was more of the same. Infinity Ward made a good game, but they need several changes. Taking apart Call of Duty 3, the next Call of Duty was this one, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and it was the next step for Infinity Ward. They managed to develop a new game in a different context, the modern war, instead of the Second World War.
  • Cons: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is the same game as the others, with no important new features. It's just the same game in a different time and context, but I feel like I've been playing the same game since the first Call of Duty was released. They tried to make something new, but the didn't change the concept of the game, just the stage and nothing more.

its alright

  • Summary: it's alright, it take's getting use to using L to fire and the touch screen controls but once you do it's pretty smooth. though the controls are nice the story is horrible, with only about 3 hours of play its a average game. though it is DS of course you cant compare it to ps3, or xbox 360 but the graphics are alright. you will only use about 3 guns through the whole game. it is pretty entertaining through the story mode, but the reply value is about 2 (out of 10).

Not bad for a handheld

Mickey Olson, Amazon

  • Summary: The DS verison of COD:MW is pretty good for a portable FPS but it just isn't as satisfying as the console versions. It controled OK but my hands get tired after a while. One control problem that plauged me was you are supposed to double tap the screen to look down the barrell of the gun or scope and I kept doing that on accident, meaning I kept zooming in and out while moving around. I also thought it took a lot of shots to take out an enemy.

Go Deep & Go Hard

  • Summary: They both end at a bridge. They both have you alternating missions between different factions. They both have you killing a hell of a lot of terrorists with automatic weapons. Beyond that though, there's not much in common between Call of Duty 4 on consoles/PC and it's handheld little brother on the DS. "Dang it, I didn't double tap." What is the most common phrase you'll use while playing this game?

Solid but short and buggy

  • Summary: Pros: Good sound, decent graphics. Simple fun. Physics are uninspired but if you have played CS 1.6 they are familiar. Mission objectives are well placed to get the most out of the ground levels. The explosives placement and disarming mini-games are fun. The AC-130 level is especially fun, and pleasantly unexpected given most modern combat games neglect this critical piece of air power. Weapon selection is minimal, but well rounded.

Possibly the best war game on the DS

yackers1, Ciao
23 February 2009
  • Excerpt: The Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (?COD4?) is another game of the first person shooter genre. You play the role of a Special Forces soldier whose mission is to prevent terrorists from detonating a nuclear weapon. The terrorists run you on a goose chase across Europe and the Middle East and it is your task to stop them by going from checkpoint to checkpoint and killing terrorists. ****Graphics**** The graphics are 3 dimensional.
  • Pros: Excellent graphics, great sound effects, good missions,
  • Cons: It is a short game with not that many missions

okay but nothing special

Jules, amazon.co.uk
22 January 2008
  • Summary: I have a friend who's got this game on the xbox and it looks really good, so I thought I'd try it on my nintendo ds. I don't want to sound negative, but I'm going to anyway...the game is okay but I found the controls really fiddly (trying to hold the ds while looking around using the stylus, and then using the other hand to move and shoot). I can't understand why they couldn't use the left + button instead of the stylus.
